What do you do when your cat wants too much attention?

My cat want attention 24/7 and developed a habit of scratching me to get it, my neck and hands are full of scratch marks.

I'm patient and don't show aggression even though he makes me bleed but I have limits and I'm really tired of him.

I've watched tons of videos on YouTube, read advice from other cat owners, visited multiple vets, but nothing works.

Seriously, some serotonin blocker might work. When a bitch is in heat I give the males a serotonin blocker and they're all chill.

if they're kittens between the two and five months of age... then it might be just a phase that will fade... and they're also missing the company of a play mate, as the litter would have been

now, if they're older cats or adults... it could be a different situation

Your not showing aggression has convinced your cat that he is the boss, dominating you. Next time he wants attention, calmly pick him up, place him outside your room and close the door. He will probably get pretty upset. Wait a few minutes, open the door, and calm him down. Then put him someplace away from you. When he comes back, ignore him, and tell him, in a calm voice, that you are busy. Repeat this over and over until you break him.

Try a spray bottle. It works on my cats. It doesn't hurt them and they don't like it. If I don't want them doing something I just spray them. They seem to get the message. Now I don't even have to spray them anymore, I just show them the bottle and they're gone.

I'd scare the cat if that was attempted more than once as a big "F-off".
We were not afraid to yell at the cat when a point needed to be made across, worked well for a long time and didn't effect the cat negatively in our case since the cat would be over it 10 mins later but still would know not to do something.

Until the cat was old and learnt it was an empty threat (Or slightly deaf from old age), then it was ineffective.

Stop playing Ted Nugent for your cat! But seriously, I'm a dog guy and I imagine like most animals, cats can be trained. A quick Google search for 'cat training' led me to tons of results. May 2024 bring you a scratch free relationship with your cat.

I don't have that. My cat is old and pretty mellow. She doesn't seek much attention. I think when she seeks me our it's less for the attention and more for the body heat.

I'll be on the sofa with a blanket and she'll walk up to me and look at me. That's my signal to lift the blanket then she jump up next to my chest and I'll cover her body with the blanket and she'll take nap next to me purring.❤️
