Do you have an equivalent word in your language? We don't have an equivalent to a/an in Welsh, instead "a" means and as in John a Janet. This confuses people trying to learn who find nor using the articles a/an unnatural.
Japanese, Russian, Korean don't have an equivalent either.
I think some English dialects also drop "a/an" in speech too.
But in English its best to use it to keep people happy.
A/an are essential.
“A” is used when the word following it begins with a consonant.
“An” is used when the word following it begins with a vowel.
Example:
“There is a dog in the house.”
“There is an owl on the tree branch.”
If you say “an dog” it should feel wrong in your mouth. Same if you were to say “a owl”.
