Do you find it easy to go against the grain?

I've always been one to do what I want regardless of what everyone else is doing. I do notice though, that some people find it hard to be the odd one out if they find themselves not on the same page as the majority.

Do you find it easy or hard to stand out from the norm and go against the grain?

I don’t know if it’s always been easy, but I’m committed to it, haha. I’m pretty unapologetically “me”, and I don’t think that generally steps on anyone’s toes necessarily, but some people over the course of my life have apparently felt an apology was owed, lmao.

Being a white kid who listened to rap pre-Eminem in a high school with a pretty strong faction of rich preppy suburban kids was NOT the easy road, I can tell you that much😂 Never been so disliked for something so innocuous, lmfao, but a few kids just weren’t having it. I got called “the W-word” a lot😂😂😂

I don’t know, I kind of just do my thing, move through life in a way that works for me, and don’t let naysayers knock me off of my pivot. I just don’t buy a lot of the societal prescriptions for life, which really throws some people off, that I’m not doing what THEY’RE doing, haha, but whatever, you can love me or kick rocks🤷‍♂️

I am not to sure. Things are very different since I went to school, that is for sure. You become more confident in yourself I think. While in school you want to fit in somehow, I think. Nowdays I just do what I want. never much cared about peoples oppinion of me to begin with either, beauty of ADHD as I see it ^^

Not really. Being an introvert I've felt many times that I didn't fit in, because I want to leave the group I'm hanging out with, although they're good people, but I seemed to be the only one with the low social battery. So coming to terms with that, it's not that hard to just ignore what the others are doing and go my own way.

Much like Dr. Florian Kaps, who spearheaded the revival of Polaroid integrated film, I’ve had a lifelong habit of running in the opposite direction. Being an odd one out almost everywhere I go pretty much guarantees that I’ll end up stuck in the mud with one wheel spinning while the one with more traction does nothing, but trying to be “normal” would turn me into a pressure cooker. Yes, it’s lonely at times, but I’ve been around that block enough times to quickly spot those who don’t appreciate my company, make a hard left and let them go flying out the door. It’s not like they were buckled in anyway, and their hand was on the release handle almost the entire time, so it was bound to happen.

Why would I go against ''the grain''? - I'd still be a part in this group.

I just step aside and walk where there is no ''grain'' to slow me down.

As for people's self-celebration of being oh so different and special... there are millions of this kind - which makes them their own ''grainkind''.

If it is warranted yes, no problem. Sometimes conformity is paradoxically to go against the grain as well though, since individuality and self-determination is so trendy these days and almost encouraged via an unspoken consensus of what a person ought to do. Yet it can swiftly become mindless rebellion against the wrong things if done for the wrong reasons. A long-winded way to say that sometimes I go against the grain by not only trying to feed my own desires.

I'm the same way and. It's usually because I see things different and deeper than most people.
I don't like to follow I like to lead. And whether I go against the grain or not it doesn't matter to me I am who I am and I'm going to find the best way and sometimes it's the way that things are done or if you know a new way I go for it. It really doesn't matter to me it doesn't make a big deal to me

It don't really see it as hard or easy I've just never tried to fit in because well that wouldn't be me. I am what I am and I am who I am. Which has been a motto of mine for a long while.

Now with that being said who I am, my values, morals, ethic, etc used to be normal and cornerstone of the US long ago. But that seems to be rapidly going away with time, seems like there's less and less of a place in the world for people like myself.

Depends. I don't do it to be obnoxious. Some people will have an "can't tell me what to do" attitude, just to spite.  I will do it when I know an easier way.

I don't mind it and I'm used to it, but it can get kinda lonely especially when you really go against the grain and don't do what people usually do.. A lot of people like to claim being unique, but oof.. It's not that glamorous..

A lot of my views are ones that many people disagree with and I've never had any issues being in the minority when it comes to them. It's pretty easy for me to go against the grain and not be a sheep in this society.

At times it can be a challenge so I wouldn’t say that it’s always easy. However I tend to be a creative thinker so I’ll keep “the grain” within my sights but try for better trails

I do if it doesn't mean breaking the law or doing something immoral. In some ways, not having a tattoo, for example, is "weird" because the majority of adults under 40 have one.
