What smells better: cigarette, cigar, or pipe?

To a non-smoker, I imagine that the smell of a pipe is best.
As a kid, I remember my dad and uncles smoking pipes and thinking that they smelled pretty good.
I remember this next story as a kid, too.
My parents bought a fairly new car from my mom's brother, who was a cigar smoker.
To this day, I can't visualize a '61 red Impala without thinking of great cigars.

As I'm a smoker of cigars and pipes, I find cigars to be more pleasing when actually partaking in the pleasures of the leaf.

I smoked cigarettes years ago.
I can't stand to be around them at all anymore.

I like the smell of all of them, always have. Pipe is just more of a hassle than a cigar and requires more skill

Yeah, I've been smoking pipes for several years now.
I have 18 different pipes.
Every pipe and every blend burns differently, so to me, it's like I can never really figure it out.
I get lucky about 1/2 the time.
A real pro would probably be able to adapt their technique to optimize each bowl, but I'm not quite that observant, I guess.

A cigar is just a whole lot more relaxing to me.

I saw you say that you roll pipe blends.
I found that to be interesting.
I might give that a try.
Especially with a Latakia, maybe.

You are much more a connoisseur than I. They burn and smoke different than a cigar or cigarette, but they do burn and smell pleasant

That's not quite true of me regarding pipes, I don't think.
I think connoisseurs tend to know what they're talking about.
I know quite a bit of pipe lingo, but as far as technique goes, I'm maybe just south of being a journeyman.
On a good day.
Pipes and blends are so complicated.
Couple that with me always wanting to try new blends and I feel like I'm always flying by the seat of my pants.
That is, if I'm wearing pants, which I'm usually not.
I just tend to dive into hobbies fast and deep, although most of my pipes are used from ebay, $10 to $20 each for most, occasionally a tad more.
I think $50 was my most costly, a beautiful, barely smoked, very large bowled, Neerup Rustic Selection 16 full bent billiard

Cigars I know pretty darned well, but pipes, man, they take dedication in order to master.

Do you roll free-handed, or do you use one of those one-at-a-time rolling machines, and do you have any favored blends that you prefer, paper recommendations, any of those sorts of questions that you can think of that'd get me started?

I haven't hand rolled anything except good old Mexican weed back in the early 70s, and I was never very good at it then, much less with me being an old man now.

I think that I'd be more of an English Blend guy, with Latakias more so than aromatics, but I'm curious as to your style and technique.

Since my heart attack, I've been told to cut out the smoking, but I'm really intrigued by your idea.
Did you come up with that on your own, or did you see it done elsewhere?

I'd sure like to partake of the leaf again, and your idea seems like it'd be a quick smoke, instead of a 2-hour Gordo cigar.

You know much more than me. 🙂. I roll free handed like I always have. I’ve never smoked to excess but enjoy a quality tobacco. With pipe tobacco it seems like you want the driest stuff you can get. If you chop it up a bit it’s easier to roll with a paper and you can smoke it much like a pipe, enjoying the flavor as it burns slow. Without the hassle of the pipe or the time required for it or a cigar

I like a good cigar about 5 to 8 times a year. The smell is nice when it is a really good cigar. I usually get mine from this orphanage down in Dominican Republic. A Canadian minister opened the orphanage and the kids make the cigars. They get a significant cut of the proceeds which goes towards their education, they learn about running a business, and it feeds everyone.

Thanks, I figure my proceeds are going to something good rather than some large corporate business. The Minister was nice enough to have the books open for everyone to see it's not child labor and we were able to talk to the kids while they showed us how they make the cigars. Heart goes out to those kids, tough to grow up in that poverty, especially on your own and homeless.
