These are unfortunately three things that are very hard to collect anymore because modern technology has caused paper to fall by the way side.
People email greeting cards.
And the snowman has replaced my beloved gingerbread family.π
I used to have a collection of rare coins. Any time it was different from the standard, I'd put it in a box. But about 12 ish years ago the house was robbed and they took all the rare coins. Ever since then, I feel like material possessions like that just don't have the same satisfaction.
@HawkPreception
Yeah, I have had someone I know stealing my things here and there since February. The only way I can explain how I feel about it is that I feel emotionally raped!
I am having a hard time with my stuff being stolen from this lady that is supposed to be my helper.
Everytime I turn around something else is missing.
The only way I can deal with it is to pray to God to punish her accordingly. God knows who did it and to steal things from one of God's children (me) is like she stole my stuff from God himself.
Oh well, I just can't deal with anymore of my belongings disappearing.
I have had to spend money to replace what went missing and I can't afford it.
Some people are so mean anymore. I would never steal from anyone ever!
π
Not cool at all and sorry to hear about it. But that's why I try not to focus on material possessions too much. They're just material at the end of the day. We did with memories of experiences we've had. Not money or material possessions.
@HawkPreception
The things she stole were things like my flashlight, my black shorts, a beloved stuffed gingerbread boy that was on my bed, my Post It Notes,. But everytime I turn around it's something else gone.
I am not a materialistic person at all. But the everyday day necessities I need my heart sinks everytime I know I have to replace some more things.
I really believe she is a kleptomaniac! She's such in her head.
That is pretty insane to me. Isn't there a way to search her place (unless she sold them all off)? Or at the very least, remove her from service
@HawkPreception
I have never been to her house. But I bet if I was in there alone and looked around I would find my stuff.
There wasn't anything worth any money. She has them at home for herself.
I don't lie, steal or cheat and that's why I am having such a hard time getting through this. It's like I am waiting for my next stomach ache whenever something else goes missing.
What I don't understand about this is that I give her things all the time. They are just little things but I could keep them just the same.
She even blamed other people and changed the deadbolt on my door but she kept a key. π I guess she changed the lock so I wouldn't think it was her. But now when something goes missing it has to be her because no one else can open the door now.
This is no way to live is it?
I'm not sure how this would work entirely and don't know what it would take to get a search warrant, but if the items she stole had sentimental value to me, I would ask cops to investigate my missing things at her place.
It's definitely no way to live to be stealing from anyone.
Then maybe have a talk with her about it? I don't know what to say. I'd feel like I'd want my stuff back.
I lost everything I had collected throughout my life in a fire 5 years ago. But, we also lost our mom in that fire. No material thing will ever matter to me again.
@Caroline91 I'm so sorry to hear that. I can't imagine what that might feel like
@HawkPerception It feels like part of the fabric of my life. Woven inextricably into the whole. Thank you for your empathy.
@Caroline91
I am truly sorry π to hear about your Mom. It reminded me that I lost my grandma in her own house fire. She died before I was born but I think about her and often wonder what she was like. I just feel like we would have been close. But I will never know.
Sad for both of us.
Wow. You both had it rough. Bless your souls. Sending you both positive energy βοΈ
@HawkPerception
Thank you for the positive energy Hawkπ
@sage2021 And I do not intend to make what you have been experiencing any less than it is. The question just made me think about what material things mean to me. In your case, I can see it isn't as much about the things, although they are important, as it is about trust.
I experienced something similar as a child, when things of mine kept disappearing, no one else's, just my things. I was 10 years old and we had a live-in caretaker from Mexico who my brother and I really loved. We would literally drive her down across the border regularly to visit her family. She had a granddaughter my same age. After she gave notice and left for good, a whole lot of my things were missing. The only thing that really bothered me was a clock my grandmother had brought me from Switzerland. Later, we realized she must have taken all those things bc it stopped after she left. When I thought about it, I thought about how poor her family was and how her granddaughter didn't have all of the nice things I did... except, now she did. I thought about how happy her grandmother's heart must have been to give her those things and I was glad that she had those nice things now, even the clock.
I wish, too, that you could have known your grandmother. Grandmothers are so very special. It's nice sometimes to share even sad or nostalgic things and find threads where our lives intersect. Thank you for your kindness.π

@HawkPerception Above intended for you! Thank you.
It'a late and I'm tired.. lol Should have been in reply further up!!!
I just typed Amazn Gingerbread collection into gogle. Amazn have have LOADS of Gingerbread items.
GaG please note:- I altered the names of companies as not to contravene any rules. Ta
You're very welcome.. Did you find anything you like?
@TommyMountainFigure
I loved everything!!π
My former kitchen was decorated with so many gingerbread things.
If you look at all the gingerbread people they are always smiling and it makes me happy to see them smile π.
Sadly, recently one of my favorite gingerbread items was stolen off my bed by the lady who is supposed to be my helper. π He was a plush stuffed gingerbread boy about 9" tall and he had a girlfriend that used to sit next to him on my bed. The girl is still there but her boyfriend is gone.
I am so upset over this!! Why would someone rip me off like that? I give her a lot of things then she steals one of my most favorite things.π
I am so glad I could help.
What that helper did is deplorable. My only logic for it is she is a kleptomaniac who cannot help herself.. Please tell me though you have a different helper now?
I'm going to send you a pm.. ok?
@TommyMountainFigure
Unfortunately I have the same helper. Lot's of my things are missing! Even my good bright flashlight but she left me the old one from 1980 that has a dead battery. My Post-it notes are gone, my black pair of shorts and I don't know the full extent of what else is missing.
She must be a kleptomaniac!!
Maybe you can look on there for hidden cameras, and then catch her in the act of stealing?

I don't collect physical things as a hobby these days. I'd rather go do something or write. I do keep an eye out for rare or unique books, though. I now have a carefully curated collection because I am more of a minimalist. I used to have a ton of books, but got rid of most of them and haven't missed a single one. They weren't collectible, just about various topics that I found interesting.
I do can, so you could say I have a collection of canning jars, ha! It's a satisfying process and I enjoy it.
I basically used to collect everything I mean from coins stamps money GI Joe's Barbies China tokens Hot Wheels black dolls marbles if I found it interesting I would collect it
Yes, I collect rocks. Every time I go on a road trip, I like to get a rock from each state and city I went through or to and write the name of the state or city on it
@coxoabean
That's so cool π
I collect Tattoos on my body; expensive hobby... though I get a £30 discount per hour and have received some work and a tattoo for free.
I am now +/- 50% covered, I am aiming for 90% coverage... possibly my head included. Most work has been done in the past 2.5 years, and I have spend about £4000 so far.
memories :D
and small stones and shells from the seashore...
Records, especially break-ins, Mad magazine, National Lampoon magazine. Until 4 years ago, I had all of the Lampoons and nearly all of the Mad's.
I've also collected all the Yellow Submarine possible figures. I bought 2 copies of each one. One to open and do things with, the other set is still sealed. I even got two copies of the, "Big Head John".
And, I inherited my mother's collection of leather post cards. Back in the 1800's, they made picture post cards out of sheets of leather. My grandmother sent and received quite a few of them. Mom found them and collected them. When she died, they became mine.
Here's Herb Alpert's break-in record!

I used to collect lots of older things. Most anything that was old. Then I inherited my motherβs things. Which were either antique or hand made by her. Now I need space and have to figure out how to part with the sentimental handmade items.
Silver coins, miniature spirits bottles and cigar tubes
nope... I could possibly end up collecting every collectible item in the world... a but fixated about it
I collect old tech.
Old money and money from other countries
@call_me_scar
That's very interesting. Thank you for your answer.
I like brass things. Anything brass.
Herb Alpert?
@FunkyMonkee
I remember Her Alpert and the TJ Brass.
That was the very first vinyl album I bought when I was about 7 years old.
It was my only album so I played it a lot!
I never heard of that band.
My mom and her sisters were big into Herb. My aunt had more of his albums than mom did. I think she only had 3. I have, maybe, a dozen of his singles and a couple albums. I've even got a few of his early singles before he started doing the Mexican bit!
www.youtube.com/watch
Brass Connection but not Brass Knuckles.
How about, The Brazen Brass?
No, except for a few episodes when I was a kid, because of Opie, I never much liked that show. I only saw maybe a handful of episodes. Back then, if it wasn't really funny, sc-fi or spy-related, I wasn't interested in it.
I'm watching UNCLE right now. I'm on the 4th season. 8 or 9 more episodes to go.
Barney was the ONLY reason to watch that show and even he wasn't incredibly funny, to me.
You might like, "The Great Race", then.
David McCullem. Illya Kuriakin.
He also played, Duckie on one or more of those NCIS shows.
He was also in 2 early episodes of The Outer Limits "The Sixth Finger" and "The Forms Of Things Unknown" and one episode of the `90's version of The Outer Limits, a remake of an old episode called, "A Feasibility Study".
