What are some ways life was different in 2010 (year not decade) than now in 2024?

For me:

1. Cable was still popular
2. DVDs were still a common way to watch movies
3. Social media then wasn’t much around to be as mainstream and noticed like that like nowadays.
4. Smartphones weren't as common place. Back then, I remember the phones everyone used was flip phones still and blackberry phones.
5. Music still played on the radio and used MP3 players.

6. Kids still played outside back then.

Kids increasingly don't know how to swim
Kids no longer go to their lockers in school because everything is on their Chromebook
When my kids friends came over in 2010 nobody asked me for the Wi-Fi password or a charger
My kids had more guests for dinner and sleepovers in 2010 then kids do now

The simple fact is that this helicopter parenting bullshit has DESTROYED childhood and smartphones was the last nail in the coffin. I am not sure it's even childhood anymore as opposed to children being the extension of their parents as the USA continues its headlong plunge into the worship of youth.

Yup, I’m 27 and I’m certain I was the last generation to go outside everyday all day and hangout with friends ride bikes, skate boards, roller hockey, Ice hockey, football, from the age of around 8-17 I was probably in school and outside the majority of my life, and made amazing memories. Nowadays kids just sit inside and stare at a computer or phone all day. Feel bad for them, they’ll never understand what it was like to be a real kid.

I would say for no. 4, iPhones were coming out then but they weren’t ubiquitous like they are nowadays to be mainstream yet taking over. I was 8 that year and knew a lot of things were different in the world compared to what it is now. People who’d have the iPhone had to have been rich and have money but people still were using flip phones, black berry phones, and the phones you had with the keypad you text on him when you flip it sideways

eh, I still think 2000-2009 was the best era, smart phones basically didn’t exist, video games were legendary, music was amazing, the internet hadn’t wrecked everyone’s mind yet. Kids ACTUALLY played outside, and being grounded or kept inside was torture. Best times. Glad I got to grow up in them. 2010 on the other hand, meh, wasn’t my favorite year, think my favorite year will always be 2006

I agree. I would say we were the last in our kind growing up where the world became like it is now. When we was kids, we went outside, played, and watched tv inside. The music was so good of what was playing at that time, and smartphones didn’t exist yet til it became mainstream around later years after. I feel really bad for kids and teens coming up nowadays

The 90's were even better in terms of atmosphere. But then you didn't actually have the internet yet. And the internet itself is progress. Especially for maintaining contact and looking up information.

Things have deteriorated sharply since the early 2000s. People were more tolerant before that.
