If a 'friend' wanted to make you their 'project' to try and help you become more popular would you let them 'help' you?

Depends who it is doing the makeover. Family? No. Guy friends? Most - no, they know less than me, usually. PR rep or fashionable friend? Yes. But it's hard to find IRL.

I have two women friends (married) that I think are at least sort of decent at that stuff... (the few other female friends I have are married, and... not super fashion forward, or they're not my age... so it'd be a disaster).

I'd like to see if we could meet at the mall and get some help with at least some cologne... but I don't know if we're "at that place." They are also very busy doing the wife / mom / business women thing. And when they ARE free, they usually want to hang out with other married couples. I don't know if I'd be too embarrassed asking... and lately it's been said that asking for help is seen as stupid/pathetic/creepy/weird, etc.

I think I know some stuff about fashion, and am good at color matching, at least... but can't figure out a style while keeping some personality. Most of my stuff is graphic tees and jeans, (which I know is uncool, but I like... or just some dress pants with a button up shirt. Stuff that's comfortable... but I get that as I get older, I want to look more grown up. Even dressed up, most women seem to think it's "not cool," yet they're unwilling to tell me what IS cool or help me look...

and I don't have a lot to spend, so while an overhaul is probably needed, there's a lot of stuff that is uncomfortable to wear, or it's not practical (leather jacket in 20-30 degree winter?), or it's "not me." And... is a poor fit... I'm working on losing weight, so I don't want to buy stuff now that might be too big in two years. So I think I am probably on my own.

To teleport me back to Middle School me, I actually told my friend the popular kids are fake, they constantly let their grades fall just to promote their friendships & clubs & all, and they are difficult to deal with also have back stabbing all the time I’d rather have my small group of real friends, good grades, being a role model (teachers called me that though I didn’t see myself as that at the time tbh), and the fun I can have by myself without needing validation from a larger majority.

That should be everyone’s mentality, don’t be the popular be the outsider. It might suck though what you’ll find is real connections, good grades, and a place without judgement / you feel accepted for who you genuinely are and not having to fake it.
