Who Here watched the sonic the hedgehog movie's and remembers the original design for sonic before the movie released and how bad it looked?

Right here, lol. I have watched the first 2 but not the 3rd one just yet... and I'm incredibly excited to see it, by the way! It's been a long time since I've been so genuinely excited for a movie! Sonic was the 2nd video game I played right after Mario (not counting those cheap flash games lol), and a pretty big part of my childhood!

But anyway... when the first movie design came out, I was just like "no fucking way, this can NOT be real!"

I highly doubt that the movies would've been successful as they were and have 3 films total so far if they kept the original design. I don't even wanna imagine how Tails, Knuckles, Shadow, etc would've looked like with the philosophy of the old design. If that was the case then there wouldn't be ANY sequels period, neither the 2nd nor the 3rd.

I also remember it had come out during a similar time as Detective Pikachu. Did not help in the slightest since Detective Pikachu despite using realistic 3D Pokemon designs for live action as well, it actually was really well executed and a waaaaaaay better movie! I could NOT take it serious if they had gone with the original design!

Thankfully they fixed the problem, and now they're some of my favorite movies ever, haha.

I don't understand this absurd trend of trying to make stylized cartoon characters into live action movies. The newer design looks better but the rest of the world he's in is still realistic, and it shouldn't have been.

In truth, I was indifferent to this design, if I had been the director, I wouldn't have changed it.

I liked Sonic a lot growing up and to see them draw sonic worse than me was quite surprising ha
