Starlit eyes glow
Constellations bleed and
Cosmic horrors move
Nebulae flesh expand
Pulsing black hearts
Galaxies rise
Devouring all they see
Void opens wide
Screams echo far
Celestial agony
Skin peels and
Bones turn to debris
Flesh melts like lava
Stars feast hungrily
Souls drift in plasma
Eternal misery
On the few clear nights we have, it's interesting to look st the stars and try to remember what they are. When I was young, I was an amateur astronomer.
There is so much light pollution in the city that it's not really possible.
There is a rather rural area only about 15 minuted from our home in the midwest. Going there adds three levels of magnitude to your viewing capability in night sky (that's a lot in a metro area). Local telescope aficionados and stargazers meet there during the spring, summer and fall months. The leaders of the group have sizable scopes (12" and up) the size of water heaters for all to use. Lately, they have automated viewing devices which send the image to TV monitors so several can see a planet/star/asterism/comet/galaxy/whatever at once. But overall, yes, light pollution is encroaching.
Yeah, we have similar corners here to improve the conditions for interested amateurs. The professionals drive to designated elevated areas with especially dry and clean air.
The area near us has banks of trees set in such a way that they block a lot of the urban light from 15-20 miles away. Staying in the shadow area of the treeline adds another level of magnitude to the viewing.
yeah i memorized where all the planets are and stuff
I do a little stargazing on my own, like taking a nap. 😴😴
If there's something to look for. However, almost every time there is, it gets really cloudy here and we can't see shit!!
I love it. This might as well be one of my theme songs:
After 21 years I'm still not used to the Southern skies. I miss seeing the plough every night.
I like it too, it's very interesting indeed.
I love it. My brother and I went camping just to do it
