It's worse than gambling really, because all individual trades are delayed so that larger funds can trade first. They know you want to buy or sell before you can execute your transaction and they get priority. Software trades in milliseconds to take advantage of market demand. As a result normal consumers are always in a losing position. It's like if you played poker with someone that always got to look at your cards.

Generally speaking it's a investment but in some cases it's close to gambling yes.
