Do you have a basement?

i live in the northeast and most houses here have basements. There are many parts of the country that build houses on concrete slabs because the house may be on clay or has a high water table. All the stuff that would normally be in the basement ends up in the garage and the cars end up in the driveway.

I wish we had basements here. The water table is 3-4 feet during a drought in SE Louisiana. I've been in some underground service areas (pumping stations in the like) and you can see the water pouring and sweating through the concrete with pumps constantly working to keep it out.

Basements look so useful and fun, but I think a sealed one down here would make your house pop out of the ground like a cork. The bedrock is made of sandstone as well :/

Yes I do. I wouldn't own a house that didn't have a basement. I finished it myself. Did all the framing, sheetrock, spackling, electric, painting and trim work on my own. I did have my friend who is a plumber put in the heating in though

We have a basement - most homes here do, and older homes usually have at least a 4’ crawl space.

My basement is finished though and mostly used as another living space. It’s actually a fully legal apartment with a separate walk out entrance, but we don’t lease it out. We might in the future. There’s a small area for the furnace and other utilities, and that’s where some stuff gets stored.

Yes. All our properties have basements.

Our old brownstone had a cellar, was build before the turn of the century… was used for keeping food cool.
Next is the basement - which is on ground level- the kitchen and yard space. Then 3 more levels up. So total 5 levels.

Shelfs in the garage. Under the stairs there is a storage closest and the office sometimes gets overtaken with all of our art projects and random stuff lol. I try not keeping too much junk so that helps these areas not get to filled like I still park in my garage

@Apple1996 I feel the same way about basements. Creepy! Ever since I saw the movie Amityville Horror, I have to have a couple drinks just to go in the base to do laundry 😂😂

I actually rented a house in Jacksonville 1987-87 that had a small basement and it was quite a novelty.

Developed a flu the last day of the cruise - tested neg for covid - and have a great excuse to not return to the office tomorrow. Extra day at home to recoup before I face the real world again!

Nah, there probably isn't to many homes with basements around these parts although in 1996 we built a 7 k square foot two story home with a finished attic and basement giving the home four levels. This is the only one I can think of. In Longview, Texas.

Actually in Oklahoma there are not many housed with basements.

Yes, it's one of those types that is exposed in the back but not in the front of the house.

Some stuff, including wine racks full of bottle, is under the house. It stays a constant temperature there.
We also have a big garage and a couple of sheds.

Yes In Switzerland almost every house has a basement and a shelter.

Nope. Most homes in the Southeast don't have basements. I know many people in Florida and all their homes are built on slabs, because groundwater is only a few feet down.

Yes, you have to put all your stuff in the garage and leave your car in the driveway.

Most single dwelling by me the ranches, splits & colonials have made the attached garage living space. That leaves the attic or, as carlin said, "You got too much stuff!"

There are very few houses in California with basements. I'm not sure if it's because of building codes and earthquakes, but there are a few really old houses with basements
