I hear most of Asia won't be around in 25 years due to water rising. Since ice glaciers are breaking off and other countries will be affected like usa. If that is the case then my home town which is san diego will also be under water. Any thoughts?
- 1.8K opinions shared on Other topic.
1 yThere isn't enough ice water to do that to Asia. Coastlines will be underwater if all the ice melts (national geographic made a global map for if all the ice melted), but its not likely going to be all of it before the next iceage hits.

75 isn't very old, also if you live in south dakota then thats never going to be underwater.
Florida is fucked though.

@Jeff51 Yes, everyone was screaming how Trump's tariffs would male the cost of vehicles go up an average of $2000. I went up on Ford's website and priced a 2025 as close as the sticker on my 2019 F-150.
It was $16.000 more. So 4 years of Bidenomics resulted in and increase of 4 thousand dollars per year and nobody said a peep. - 11 mo
Electric cars are cheaper and easier.
- 11 mo
The climate has been changing not centuries, but billions of years. At least five major ice ages. Warming and cooling is a natural process. Humans want to take credit for everything even when they have nothing to do with it. They just can't accept that something can actually change without having anything to do with them.

The climate never changed for no reason.
Since you apparently disagree with our current understanding of radiation absorption/absorption, what's your alternative theory? - 11 mo
The climate remained stable for the past 8000 to 11000 years, with very little sea level rise. It's only since the 1st and 2nd industrial revolution that sea level rise has happened.

11 moI think we have had record cold here where I live this year. It's the coldest I can ever remember.
I know I know I've heard it all. "That's weather it's not cliiiiimate."
Whatever.
The Earth has been going through warming and cooling cycles since it was formed billions of years ago. So obviously it is still going through those cycles. I don't think humans have much to do with it. They're too stuck up on themselves and full of themselves so they think that everything that happens in the universe is controlled by them.
That's the biggest joke of all.
I don't think we know anything about what's happening to the planet and I think at least half of the science is bullshit.
Have the scientists call me back when they can actually create life and have an actually plausible explanation for how the universe was created. Maybe then I might care what they have to say.

it is a real thing, it happens and it is accelerated and a bit worsened by human pollution. BUT, regarding earth's history, there have always been climate changes, periods where the alps were glacier free, sea levels were higher/lower etc. have existed before. We only have to adapt. It will be hard for poorer countries situated in zones where climate change effects hit the most, but thats just how it is.
Everything you see about "green politics", "emission trade" is doing practically nothing to stop it. Most of these are just for show, to give the world the idea, that your country or corporation is "good". Climate change is nowadys just a tool business, electric cars dont do anything good for the environment, they just got trendy because Musk started it with Tesla, other companies hopped on the hype train and used politics to make people feel good when buying. Wind turbines, EVs, the EU's green deal and emission trading are just useless, except for profits for some
10 Reply It's happening and we have greatly influenced how much and quickly it's happening. Naysayers are in denial. But the average person can't do much to make a dent in the impact we as a species make on it. We'll just have to live with the consequences of our actions until we go extinct unless we get more desperate.

This is a fallacy of aggregation. Apart from buying solar panels, voting for political parties that set out a feasible path is worthwhile.
- 11 mo
@bddddd You're right that individuals play a role, but the problem isn’t just individual behavior. I would argue the biggest contributors to global warming are massive corporations and their largescale industrial operations. They don't care about pollution as long as they make more profits than they did the last quarter.
I think focusing on personal responsibility overlooks the disproportional impact of corporate emissions and the influence of powerful lobbies. I don't think individual choices can make nearly as much impact as real change that puts pressure on industries.
Politics may help that but there's not much in it for them yet either for now. - 11 mo
I think we agree 100%. But I do have solar.

m 11 moI think it's hot !
I proceed, partially, like the Stoics, partially like the Epicureans. I can't do anything with the global aspects of... Global warming, that's out of my reach. But I can do something with my... Local warming. So I'm trying to strike a complicated balance between what I can do, what I can't, my comfort, ecology, my desire, my ethics, my stress, my peace, me, those who aren't me, the world. It's complicated 🫨
But I don't want a simpler life, or views, my life is how I want it to happen.
Also yes, again, it's fucking hot !
10 Reply 1.5K opinions shared on Other topic. People tend to forget that a lot of the US was covered by glaciers millions of years ago, long before man was around and they melted.
What is happening today might still be part of that however there are places where the ice was melting have actually been adding ice.
Mother nature does not function in 10 or 100 year cycles.
She moves very very slowly so it can take 10s of thousands of years or even longer for cycles to change.
And just for your information, fill a glass half full of ice, and top off with water.
Set it on the counter until the ice is all melted.
I'll bet that the glass doesn't overflow on to the counter.20 Reply
11 moWe are actually on the tale end of a cooling period, which is why things are getting warmer. Are we affecting the planet with our pollution? Absolutely, but not on the scale that Al Gor and Bill Gates think we are. The sun is also playing a key role as our poles shift and the magnetosphere weakens. You are already seeing the affects of this in the low level solar storms that are having a greater affect than they would have in the past. What's wild is that these solar storms not only affect the planet but us as well. It might be a part of reason why the planet seems to be going a little nuts right now.
Anyways...
Always. Follow. The. Money. Tell me who stands to benefit from the climate change theory?10 Reply424 opinions shared on Other topic. It's just long term weather patterns. It was warmer during the Medieval Warming Period, which the radical Left is trying to erase from history. There are much more important things to worry about.

11 moThat's just 400 years from now. People need to stop exaggerating, because it detracts from the real science. The water is only going to rise from about 20 inches to 48 inches over the next 100 years, depending on how much we keep polluting.
Now that's already a bad scenario, but it's a far cry from the worst case.
10 Reply17.1K opinions shared on Other topic. 25 years ago or so didn't they say New York city & most of Florida would be under water by now. My oldest brother told me back in the 60s scientist were saying we were headed for another ice age. By the way didn't they also change this global warming thing to climate change?
11 Reply- 11 mo
Yes.
1.9K opinions shared on Other topic. The earth warms, the earth cools. It's been happening for a billion years. Geologists say we've had at least five ice ages, so the Earth had to get cold and then get warmer five times. In prehistoric dinosaur times the Earth was warmer than it is now. Then it got cold and all the big lizards kicked the bucket.
10 Reply656 opinions shared on Other topic. It's an unfortunate reality that there's a lot of gases pumped into the atmosphere at at rate that nature cannot cope with that allows heat arriving at the planet to be kept in the atmosphere longer and thus heating it up. It's a solvable problem but too many commercial interests throw their spanners in the national debate about what and where should things be done to mitigate the damage.

And for the naysayers and people in denial, it is a fact that the gases that we are pumping into the atmosphere do cause the atmosphere to warm. It's a fact. In 2021alone, the US alone emitted 6,340 million metric tons = 6,340,000,000 x 2,205lbs = 13,979,700,000,000 lbs of greenhouse gases. That's for one year and one country. And again, it's a fact that those gases do cause the atmosphere to heat.
