What are some things that come (or came) to your mind when you thought about turning 40?

It didn't feel like a big deal at all. I had a great time in my 30s and just continued. In fact, I met my future wife when I was 40.

50 was more of a milestone. The half century mark. But I had been married for 8 years, moved into our new home 2 years earlier, and had a fantastic birthday party with some really good new friends.
One of those new friends was Janis Martin, a retired, renown, international opera star. I had just met her and didn't know anything about her. But when everyone sang happy birthday, I heard an angel's voice. She wasn't even trying to project or stand out. I later saw her perform at local events and she was amazing. Anyway, I can say that I had the great honor and pleasure of Janis Martin singing happy birthday to me at my 50th birthday.

Oh crap, I'm middle age now, and I still haven't gone on one date. Oh Crap, I'm middle aged now, and I still don't have any friends. Oh crap, whenever I say that I offend someone online. You see, I need people in real life, but I'm locked in situation that doesn't allow me to connect with people in real life, so I get stuck with people online, and they just come and go. Now I'm halfway to 50. hmmmm Oh crap!

I felt fabulous at 40. I thought I was finally me. Like grown up enough to be strong and independent, not care what others thought, whilst still energetic and healthy and fit. 40 was brilliant for me. But over 45? Ugh!! Not so great. Early 40's sounds what better than late 40's which is so close to 50. I'm not happy about this!

Not much really. I think I dreaded the years leading up to 40 more than 40 itself. I was in some of the best shape of my life at 40. So 40 was all good to me.
