Look at the image and figure out what goes where the question mark "?" is.

It is NOT the number 6. Six is the wrong answer.

This question is proof of how intelligent GaGers are.

When this question was posted online (there's a YouTube video about it), no one got the right answer.

Yet, her on GaG, almost everyone recognized this is the shift pattern of a 5-speed manual transmission. In fact, the image is the ball on top of the stick. R for reverse.

In SOME cars it's R for reverse. It's the gear shift for a manual car.

It's an R for reverse. Odd pattern though. Usually reverse is way over to the left.

Hopefully a reverse lockout feature on the shift mechanism because no one can drive a manual transmission these days, LOL.

There usually is, even if not depicted on the knob. I think VW was the first to depict the lockout on the shift pattern diagram. I know I've seen it on 60s Beetles and my 81 Rabbit (Golf Mk 1) had it as well.

Yeah, I think virtually every manual transmission on a passenger car has had a reverse lockout feature for 4 decades at least. I don't think any of my shift knobs showed any diagram for it though. I could be wrong. I've had 3 Vettes, a Supra, 2 Alfas, a Mustang, a GTO, an S2000, plus 2 AMG's but, Mercedes in their infinite wisdom has always refused to put a manual transmission in their AMG cars.

Well I don’t think it’s anything but reverse since you have to get the car to go backwards somehow so it’s definitely not six gear because you’re not going to push the car backwards

It’s funny that almost every car I owned until the mid nineties was a manual transmission and reverse was always on the left though

In some cars it's going in reverse.

But only in some cars. In my car going in reverse is the same as 1, but pressing it.
