Why do tongues change texture?

They surely aren't smooth cause all the taste buds give it a sandpaper like design, but I could've sworn there's times they are smooth so what gives? Tongues have goosebumps.

Also if you brush 🪥 your tongue when you brush your teeth, over a period of time, it will cause your tongue to change its texture.

I never used to brush 🪥 my tongue until I was about 30, and I wish I had never done that!!

It made my tongue feel rough and not smooth anymore.
Also I am wondering 🤔 if a person's pH balance is off if that could change the texture of the tongue?
