It also got me thinking if that's why we tend to be short and stocky around here, it's an evolutionary thing to stop us blowing away.
But have you ever been blown away or knocked down by wind?

I was on a Cruise Ship on the upper deck coming out of Stockholm one night. The winds were very strong and you could lean into them at a steep angle and not fall over. We would jump straight up and they would blow us backwards 4 to 6 feet but we could regain our balance and not fall over as the winds were straight from front to back.
I was on the bullet train in Japan and we got off in our final destination which was Tokyo. In a taxi to the hotel we saw a woman leaning into the strong winds at a corner as she was waiting for the light to walk across. Then a gust came through and picked her up and blew her off her feet about 6 feet backwards and she hit the ground. We were both astonished and amused. She was fine.
I was on another Cruise Ship in Antarctica with 55 MPH and then up to 74 MPH winds. For some reason it didn’t feel like that when we went on deck. The wind just don't seem that bad. We went up in the 50s and low 60s MPH, nothing higher than that.
@spartan55 No the seas weren’t too bad during those times although the one in Antartica it would have been considered very rough if in the Med so it is all relative. We had much worse seas off of the coast of Chile which were even worse than the Drake Passage on our passage over. The storms off of Chile were just under “Terrifying” on my own personal scale, I guess that means they hit the top of the “Holy shit” scale. We were in the crap for a day and a half. You couldn’t walk straight down the corridors and when laying in bed you would reconsider your decisions leading up to this.
as a kid... yeah, almost
but we liked to go out for a run around the block... when it was storming at a hurricane strengths... lol

I'm living less than 2km from the coast and winds above 80km/h aren't uncommon here. However 120km/h can happen sometimes but then some roofs without anchors sunk in concrete will fly around.
Yes, I have. A few times. It was rather like this...

There was an area near where I used to work where the tall buildings acted like a funnel for the wind. I used the bank in one of those buildings and one day when Iwalked out of the bank I got his so hard I lost my balance. I just went down to my knees but it was surprising.
I was outside during a typhoon in Taipei Taiwan several years ago. The wind knocked me down a few times. Winds are up to 90 mph.
Yes. One time I shrunk and landed on a dandelion in its fuzzy stage and this girl came by to make a wish and blew my yards away…….
no I’m kidding….
kind of yeah. Here in NY it’s been like the Wizard of Oz at times. I even feel my suv move when driving, which is like.. yikes! 😳 And there have been times where it’s kind of a struggle to walk through it.
I have, in windy-Wellington in my home country NZ.
Can't help thinking how nice it'd be if I was strolling along and a sudden wind blew @purplepoppy into me !
No I’m a warrior with great strength. A little bit of wind like that that’s not gonna do nothing to me. But I’ll shield you from the 50 mph winds if you would like you can hide behind me
Back in the early 2000s I went out to Laramie Wyoming to visit a couple friends in college. The winds were 50 or 60 miles an hour and I had to lean into them when I was walking. They said the day before the winds were 90 mph and blowing full size dumpsters around the parking lot. They stuck rocks in the wheels of the dumpsters to keep them from crashing into their cars
No. But I have had to lean into strong winds a couple of times and been almost knocked off balance by buffeting gusts.
Very rarely, but we do cook ourselves a lot during the summer. The heat can be a killer.
I have actually. I'm pretty sure my feet were off the ground. The wind was so powerful
I have definitely had to struggle against the wind to remain upright, but i have yet to lose that battle. Every time i came close to falling down it was due to ice, not wind.
There is one lady on here who blows me away ever day.
Sadly no. I tried a while back but they had me put on a suicide watch lol
Once, the wubd was so strong I had to walk my dog in thr opposite direction I normally do, because the wind was too strong when I started walking her. Luckily it died down on the way back
I've been in winds stronger then that and I have not been blown away yet.
I have seen wind so strong that I could not ride my bicycle. Thats it.
Nah, nearly during storm Eunice moving fallen fence panels
Nope, never.
Not by wind.
