You can have a nice adventurous day, lunch, dinner and some nice wine & food or relaxing wellness. Sure you can buy happyness with money. But not that all kind of happyness, only one level, not all forever life happyness.

I remember what I was told:

Better to be rich and happy than poor and unhappy. *joke

Happiness does not come from one source alone, but the cummulation of many. You can have all the money in the world, but without loved ones, life bears little joy. You can also be surrounded by loved ones whom you are unable to feed or keep safe.

Too much money can also lead to a life of boredom.

There is a literature on this if you believe people ticking boxes between 1 and 10 on surveys asking 'taking everything into account, how happy would you say you are?' has some pseudo-socio-scientific merit. Key findings are:

    - Lack of money is associated with unhappiness. Makes sense. Food and clothing and a degree of self-determination is kind of important. Beyond a middle-class income, more money is not associated with more happiness. After all, how many ivory backscratchers can you really use at one time? Except that...

    - Men get really unhappy when their brother in law earns more than they do. Who knew?

If you've plenty of money then you don't fear the unexpected nasties life throws at you. You know if your car makes a funny noise you can get it fixed, you know if you chip a tooth it's east dealt with.

If your living paycheck to paycheck or worse your constantly worrying and any unexpected bill can throw you. Happiness comes from the knowledge you can cope and money gives you that ability.

If you are inwardly chaotic and cannot hold the space for money energetically, it will cause many problems.

Excess money can cause problems. If you become a multi millionnaire overnight, not having that will to strive to make end's meet, and you become too comfortable without anything to focus on, can lead to self destruction.

If you are experienced, prudent and appreciative, it can be a wonderful thing.

It depends. Absolutely money makes you happy if you can live comfortably. When it doesn't make you happy is when you sacrifice too much free time and real happiness in the pursuit of it. Years ago that dollar amount was $70k a year. Above that and the effort needed to get the extra money resulted in too much sacrifice.

it can buy you the H, one of the P... maybe both of the S

but it can't get you all of the Happiness... the rest depends on you, and few other things that money can't really buy

I think it can for a lot of people. I do not trust that saying that mostly rich or well to do people say that money doesn't buy happiness. If that were true then they would give all their money away and join the lower working class.

But your reference frame changes, right? 'I feel okay about myself when I compare myself to neighbours in mind-numbing suburbia' is different than 'I feel okay about myself when I compare myself with CEOs and world political leaders conferring in Davos', but the feeling of being okay is the same. It takes work to control your reference frame. Hard work. MRI scans show Buddhist monks are the happiest group of people on earth, objectively, but people aren't queuing up to do that work.

It can certainly be used to ease some of life's difficult situations. Which can produce happiness. But if used adversely, It can cause a lot of misery.

While money cannot literally bring happiness into your life, it can pay to pave the road to get there faster.

It does not, but it prevents unhappiness. Almost all problems and unhappiness are cause by not having enough money.
