If someone has lost your trust is there anything they can do to earn it back?

• If you run into them are you (1) "civil" with them (hello/goodbye in public), (2) very distant, or (3) pretending they're not even in the room?

Once someone violates my trust, they will always be that person who violated my trust. I can still be civil with them but we won’t have a close relationship.

They can regain it over time, but it will be hard and will take work/patience.

I'm generally civil with most people I don't trust. There have been a few exceptions with certain individuals who intentionally put my loved ones/me in danger.

It takes consistency, transparency, and time.

One apology doesn’t repair a broken pattern.
What earns it back is changed behavior , sustained, not performed.

I have two brothers in law who I don't speak to any more. One is because he beat his wife and broke her arm. One is because he cheated on his wife and abandoned his family. Both acts are unforgettable in my eyes.

It depends on what happened and how series the event was. I can really hold a grudge if the betrayal is serious enough. .

It's a nearly impossible thing to do. There are "rings of acquaintance" then "the shit list" which is like the phantom zone. My whole life there have only ever been two people on that list. Third one is "status pending" now, sitting on the last ring of acquaintanceville.

Nope once the trust is broken it is forever change you will never trust that person 100% ever again

He doesn't need to do anything. Trust is like a building; it takes a long time to build, but it can be demolished in an hour. And nobody lives in that building, and laying its foundation is difficult. 👌
