This question is mainly for those that were born in the 60's and 70's. Did you have a fear of quicksand when you were a child?

I recently read, that a fear of dying from quicksand, was consistently toward the top of the list of children that grew up in the '70s and '80s. I talked to a few people from that era and I was SHOCKED at how many of them remember having that fear! One guy blamed Gilligan's Island lol Another one blamed a show called, Land of the Lost... Did any of you have that fear as a child?

No, even though it was a topic in the famous Karl May books and movies. We were at the beach at least once a year, so we knew that how it was depicted wasn’t a real thing.

I was never afraid of it. I remember quicksand in the old Tarzan movies.

Tarzan was actually mentioned as one of the movies/shows that scared kids about quicksand. I have never seen a Tarzan movie.

@Twodogs0525 We all loved those movies. The kid that lived next door used to be able to do a good Tarzan yell and was had a rope that we tied to a tree branch that we swung on

Maybe they talked about quicksand a lot all those TV shows like Gilligans Island maybe that’s why but I heard recently that you cannot sink in quicksand

You're right, the dangers were HIGHLY exaggerated on shows and movies.
