Have you ever been "cut a break" at work or school? Have you ever gotten off easy, been given special consideration or a boost that maybe wasn't entirely merited, or even been spared a deserved reprimand, discipline, or punishment? Did it cause you to think differently at all about how you do and think about things? Did anyone else ever find out about it?

Many times.
One example is, in my teens, I had cops cut me a break when they pulled me over for speeding and my car reeked like weed. They just gave me the speeding ticket but didn't make a fuss about the weed.
One time, I was heading home (when I still lived with my parents). It's a 4 lane street and there was a guy in the center lane going slow. So I passed him in the right lane and went fast because I had to turn right at the next corner.
There was a cop lurking on a short frontage road looking for speeders. When I passed him, I knew I was busted. What's worse was, I was smoking a joint.
I turned left into my street and then pulled into my driveway. He pulled in right behind me.
I got out of my car and he asked if I lived there. He asked why I was going so fast and I told him that I was trying to pass a car so that I could turn left.
He said he smelled marijuana. I looked around as if I was looking where the smell was coming from and said "I hope it's good stuff."
He wound up just warning me about speeding.
That stuff was all in the 1970s when I lived in southern California.
When I was maybe 55 years old, I was heading home from the town that is near where my wife and I live now. When you enter the freeway it is uphill for a ways. It was well after 9:00 pm and there wasn't a car on the road. I was searching for a radio station or something and not paying attention. I realized that I was going 45 on the freeway and accelerated. The speed limit is 60.
Well, I went up over the rise and, from there, the freeway is a long downhill grade.
I was cruising along, not paying attention. Then, way behind me, I saw cop car lights. I looked at my speed and slowed down to the speed limit, hoping that the cop wasn't after me.
No such luck. He came up behind me and I pulled over. An veteran CHP officr came up to my window. I greeted him. He was nice. When he said I had been going over 90, I blanched. I said that I wasn't in a hurry and wasn't speeding on purpose but said he got me fair and square.
When he went back to his car to write me up, I got out and walked back toward him non-threateningly with my hands visible. He asked if he could help me.
I explained how I came to be speeding and that I was an automobile claims adjuster who knew better, and I was driving a company car. I said I was going to lose my job if I got a ticket for going 90.
He said "What are you asking?"
I asked if there was any possible way that he could let me off with a warning.
He said he couldn't do that. But he said "I'll tell you what. I'll write down that you were going 72."
I said that was super fair and thanked him profusely. After he gave me the ticket, I shook his hand and thanked him again and said he was a really nice guy.
I've been given special considerations, yes... but not because of a lack of merit but "excess of merit"
but, this didn't make me work or try less... I'd still put in the work, so...
that just feed the cycle of "rewards" most of the times, lol
The first and only time I was ever speeding it was bad I'm talking bad enough to be arrested and my car impounded. The state trooper cut me a break instead of huge consequences I ended up with a large ticket (600 bucks). That was a wakeup call to never do that again.
I’m usually very lucky with traffic police interactions. Instead of getting me into trouble, they just tell me „don’t do that“ or even actively look the other way. 😇😆
When I was pulled over by the cops. Both times they let me off the hook. 🪝
I'd like to think I never needed it. I always tried to do the right thing.
Nor that I can think of.
I don't understand the question
