I have never owned a diesel-powered vehicle and never will.
My van runs on gas, but in California it's $6/gallon and I barely get 12 MPG, so I feel a similar pain. I had to raise my hourly rate because of gas prices. But it I don't drive, I don't work, so I have to pay whatever it costs.
That said, most people under-appreciate how much the cost of diesel fuel costs then every day. Nearly every product you buy is, in whole or in part transported by a vehicle that runs on diesel, so diesel prices affect the cost of everything, from clothes to food to Amazon deliveries.
That said, this is temporary pain while the world is forced to change from the old British-led system (which was almost completely controlled by the British via their control over shipping insurance) to a new system that allows countries to be more self-sufficient and more readily enables alternatives that will reduce the influence of transportation chokepoints the the Straits of Hormuz.
The British system's main priority was to maintain power for the UK and to a lesser extent Europe, while the new system's priority is to keep shipping lanes open and to have alternatives when one of those lanes is closed for whatever reason. The US has been doing the work to keep shipping lanes open for 60 years, largely at US expense, while the British system wasn't always aligned with that goal, and Trump recognized that hypocrisy and is changing it. That's 40 years overdue.
Europe is intentionally trying to sabotage Trump for the midterms, hoping to maintain their power, but it isn't going to work regardless of the outcome of the midterms because Trump, as president, still leads foreign policy.
Fuel prices will get much better soon, except for the West coast, which has higher prices due to several refineries being closed because of Gavin Newsom's regulatory policies. California, Oregon, Washington, and Nevada all relied on California refineries, and 2 shut down in the last year and two more are likely to close within a year, which could easily mean $10/gallon gas prices in California and similar in the adjacent states.
When you make it impossible to run a refinery, you get fewer refineries and higher fuel prices, and worse, you get even more government control over your ability to drive the vehicle that makes the most sense for your situation. Gavin would LOVE to see the remaining California refineries close and gas prices be sky high, because that gives him more power and control and he can decide that you can only drive an electric golf cart. That's not an exaggeration, either.
I haven't paid for fuel for over five years now.
I wish I had someone to pay my bills for me lol.
We live in Seattle and only drive about 5000 miles a years, or 400 miles a month. That's about 12 gallons. I don't much care if it's $3/gallon or $5/gallon since it's only a $24 difference.
well... I do work, so I would just pay it? lol
No I'd rather go on foot instead of selling myself cheap for some fuel.
I could have gotten a diesel in my truck but it sounds like a hassle.
