The bible says God shares his truth with all flesh when the time is right. Everyone whether atheist or religious sees a level of God in their lives, it is just some see more and some know what they see, while others feel God but do not know the feeling they feel is God speaking to them. I know people that are not religious who believe your intuition will also tell you when your lover is unfaithful. And I know people who are not religious that do not consider suicide even when life is a total nightmare. Because God has told their spirit the consequences for giving up are worse than the torment they go through. They might not be able to verbalize it, but they behave as if they believe in God.
Why not? I would think that they'd WANT to experience the whole thing at least once! And, from what I understand, each one gets progressively less painful. What's religion got to do with it?
