Did you purposely get close to him or did he purposely move close to you. Generally when people try to get close to you and in your personal space they think you are attractive. Girls step in front of me and get in my personal space all the time, which leads me to smirk a little too, so that's why I ask if you initiated the situation...

If you are attracted to someone you do want to be as close as possible to them. The challenge for guys is that we don't really have the same freedoms as girls to do this so we have to beery careful. If a guy can't/won't discern when it isn't appropriate then that's creepy and that's a problem.
