Boys vs Girls Texting

It's funny but I see a common theme for when a girl texts verses when a guy does it. Even when they both like each other.

A girl would camp by her phone, checking her messages almost obsessively for the guy's answer. When she gets a reply, she's either texting right back, or playing the "time game" where she waits the amount of time it took the guy to text her back.

A guy on the other hand, seems less obsesive with his phone. He would consistently reply within 5-20 minutes all day long, but rarely have a period of constant and quick reply. He lets hid life comes first and text when it's casual.

I obviously am more bias in my opinion because I myself am a female, but this is a common theme that I see (it might not be true for everyone).

I answer back immediately when texting someone I like. This is not because I'm crazy obsessed though.

1. I'm on my phone (well, I was when I had one) all the time. If I get a notification, I may as well check into it and respond. It's not like I'm waiting for a reply though, but since I already have my phone in hand from either playing a game, checking FB or even texting someone else, I may as well respond.

2. If I like them, then I'll want to text/talk to them. Like I said, I'm already always on my phone. So even if I don't text someone else back immediately, I will still text him back because I truly want to talk to him.

I don't do this out of desperation or obsession. I'm not about that life anymore. Maybe when I was in middle school, but now? Yeah, I don't care. I'm not about all that instant gratification. I'll talk to you when I want to, but I'm not going to be waiting around for a reply. I have other things to do.

Basically men don't check their phone obsessively and are often in positions where a notification would interrupt something or be deemed inappropriate. They answer only when they can or even see it.

From my experience in middle and high school, this is very true!

But when it's someone you make a really big connection with, he should be checking his phone just as much as you do :P My partner and I, in our earlier days, would check our phone incessantly. We we're long distance at the time. We've since been living together for 3 years and whenever we're apart it's because we are actually busy, for a very specific thing... like he'll run to the store. No need for texting.

When he's at work he'll shoot me some texts when he isn't busy (his work is laid back about texting because it's not busy at all). But obviously his work will come first.

But, I think adult relationships are different than highschool/middle school ones. Back then I've experienced this mytake first hand and second hand 10,000 times over :P

I personally hate checking my phone, when I start getting more than 3 messages from the same person in a minute I start getting irritated. I'd say I check my phone and make responses about 1-3 times a day.

My best friend never replies right back, even if we are low in talking time. I don't know what she does😛

I only respond quickly to few selected persons other than that my replies depend upon what I'm doing at that moment.

I do ALL my business correspondence, and 95% of my social correspondence, by text. If this was the old days again, with phone calls to interrupt my #hyperfocus -- even from 1 or 2 people -- I'd lose, like, 80% of my productivity.

@redeyemindtricks It's a tool to string people along. On balance, I don't view it as a positive, though I often ask people who are calling and want to share specific information to text me the information so I don't have to write it down and possibly err in transcription.

But that's the only upside and it doesn't outweigh the downsides.

Now, getting to the core of this young woman's question about boys and texting, I'm giving her some insight, a lot of males see it for what it is, a way to be held at arm's length and teased just enough to provide her with a validation fix.

There's at least one other upside, which is that it stays there on yr phone. Thus making it easier to prove in court that some psycho ex is being, well, a psycho ex.

It's quite funny actually. I wrote it at two in the morning because I couldn't go to sleep, and it just got promoted the next day. I didn't even know that was a thing.
