Guy vs. girls for initiating texting?

Hi,
just wondering... why would a guy seem super excited, flirty and into texting when I initiate texting? But yet he rarely does? In person he’s excitable and wanting to plan things on the spot. But if we don’t get something planned in person seems like it drags on in between dates.

Side note: We we’re dating/ talking (whatever you call it), about 1.5 years ago. When I thought there were some differences, I avoided the discussion and slowly disappeared, so I don't know if that is making him think. I have since apologized for the way I exited and admitted it wasn’t fair to him, as those differences are now, no longer an issue as we’ve both changed quite a bit.

Sounds a bit like he might be worried about messing up, and would rather you take every step yourself. Or he's pacing himself and not going too fast because he's afraid of pushing you away.
