Monogamy is a structure of gynocentric society.
Males were biologically designed to propagate the species by spreading as much seed around as possible. Females ensured our survival by having brains and bodies that are geared towards a bonding togetherness. Both perspectives were needed in order to see that our species have continuance. Humans over time found that we have a much better chance of survival when we congregate in groups; hence the transition from being nomadic to creating societies. Societies don't survive without rules and structure at its base. Marriage (one of society's traditional religious institutions) indeed goes against the male's primal urge to want to propagate, but it is necessary to help ensure that children are raised with the best possible chance of success. Our traditional society both religiously and legally has deemed marriage and monogamy to be the end all be all, and to step outside of this makes you a bad person. Monetary and shaming sanctions are quick to be put in place. Our society is changing and the internet has helped to bring a greater acceptance to those who don't want to be corralled into society's traditional ways. As long as you're not raising kids, then it is fine to get involved in the polyamorous lifestyle. Enjoy your life as best you can, you only have from age 18 to age 65. We don't live forever.

As for your husband, most men don’t cheat, women have grass is greener syndrome. But men are not programmed to be monogamous, we just do it because society is gynocentric.
I don't think anyone was ever meant to be monogamous. It's just some kind of thing society said was the right thing to do.
It can be quite helpful in securing Children's future, controlling STDs, reducing overall conflict, and generally sustaining the culture and civilization. Without monogamy cultures tend to become savage and unstable if they survive at all, like many of the children who lack both parents.
Women also suffer a far more unfair work load in sustaining whatever future generation does survive, as men tend to work for themself alone, if they work at all and are not busy killing each other.

I think you're either confused by this question, or confused by my answer. What is "meant" to be, predates the society you're talking about. I agree that monogamy and commitment, are what makes rearing children possible. (not so much monogamy, but at least a commitment between two people)
I think you are grossly bringing all of this savage stuff into this. Poly-amours groups seem to do just fine raising children, all while being non-monogamous.
The funny thing about these advanced societies is; many people would prefer cheating than to just have an honest and open relationship.
I'm afraid you got it backwards. Look into history and you will find Polygamy was most common feature among of many older and uncivilized societies. Generally defined by more powerful and successful men who could afford more women such as kings taking many wife.
It did indeed created many problems contributing greatly to the destabilizing violence/warfare of those societies as young men competed for fewer women and had to be channeled less they become a threat to everyone else.
Societies became more stable the more monogamous as fewer single men were left unoccupied in such competition.
People think we are violent today but we don't hold a candle to the frequency and level of violence that largely defined most of human history. Granted a lot of that had to do with high female morality in child birth. Indeed as recently as the 19th century this was a main reason for warfare even here in America among native American tribes.
Polygamy isn't even remotely civilized, but it did exist to some degree in history.

I never mentioned polygamy. You don't have to be rich or be a king to be part of a polyamorous group.
It's quite the opposite. Multiple people living under one roof, sharing the expenses and responsibilities, could be very financially beneficial. I don't see how society would be harmed by this or become savage.

However, I believe that polygamy has a more sophisticated air now than in the past, owing to the fact that it is no longer a sexist practice. Polygamy is acceptable, but monogamy has historically had advantages. Furthermore, as a result of natural selection, society must adapt to fit the mold of survival. Many animal species have adopted monogamy because it is beneficial to their continued existence. I disagree that polygamy is the natural world's default, making it difficult to argue that "humans were never meant to be monogamous," since, even in the animal kingdom, there are many species who's instincts are to be monogamous. Because everyone/thing is different, I don't think generalized statements work for this argument.

The long history of polygamy among humans can be traced back to before we even were humans and even then it was not necessarily motivated by any sexism, but rather greed and lust.
The fact is, it is possible to raise many children in a polygamist relationship just as it is possible to raise them-outside of any relationship. It is simply not as advantageous for the child or the community as a monogamous relationship.
Ultimately both are infinitely better than having no child at all leading to the decline and collapse of the same.
Yet we see the most "modern" and "egalitarian" communities dive head long into their own demographic extinction. Each referring to themselfs as somehow more "sophisticated" than the others who are watching their community dwindle into anther part of forgotten history.
There is nothing new about old ideas such as polygamy, they are not more or less 'sexist' than their countless implementations in the past. They will however have the same consequences, because we humans have the same basic needs, desires, greed, and lust.

The sperm work as they do, because it was realized in advance that in a post-Noah world, in times like the Ice Age, it would be needed for survival.
1. Saber-toothed tigers weren't quite all extinct yet. And mankind lived a lot longer in general. Fewer mutations, etc. So therefore, women could justify having 300 eggs, and getting pregnant a lot, using up most of them, and having about 250 children.
2. Men, however, needed to be able to make the most of their time. If the tiger attacked, and the wife died first, the man needed to be able to find a new wife - and quickly!
This in no way suggested that running around with numerous women, without commitment to them, made the family unit and the species stronger. It only meant that men needed to have the option for another wife, since the world was a dangerous place that was especially harsh toward women.
So in advance, God designed men to produce sperm for life. But not women with eggs. This created a dependency for women on a husband; and an obligation on men to provide for the wife.
But as usual, mankind found unlimited ways to muck it all up.
