I'm single... and I don't hate Valentine's Day

You know what I hate about Valentine's Day? All the pity-parties girls throw. They frame it as, "I'm single and I'm dealing with it just fine... with my bucket of ice-cream, chocolate, and my single girl friends," or, "I'm single and it stinks," or simply, "Happy Single Awareness Day."

I think the pity parties are lame

This Valentine's Day, my roommate's boyfriend came to visit and they are going to a big city nearby for the day. I get to listen to them talk on the phone and on FaceTime multiple times a week. And you know what? I think they are adorable. They make my life so much more entertaining. He's a great guy and I'm incredibly happy for my roommate.

And I'm single

No, tomorrow I will not take to social media and post a selfie of me eating ice-cream and wishing myself a sad Happy Valentine's Day. No, tomorrow I will not think, "My life is crappy." And no, tomorrow I will not look at the happy couples that appear everywhere on my college campus and think, "My life sucks."

Why?

Because I like my life. Sure, if the right guy puts in an appearance, that'd be great. But I'm not pinning my happiness on that. I'm happy with who I am and with the people around me who love me and who I love.

I'm single... and I don't hate Valentine's Day.

Girls, stop the pity parties and actually celebrate Valentine's Day. Not as a day to say, "I'm a strong single woman and I don't need anyone," but as a day to realize that, whether you have a boyfriend or not, you are loved and have a lot of people to love. Don't waste your time tomorrow selfishly wishing you had a different life; spend your time tomorrow celebrating all the love that is in your life... and maybe go out of your way to make someone else feel special and love on this Valentine's Day.
