Every group of friends has at least one single friend. That single friend is either single by choice or they simply can't find someone to be with. Regardless of the reason there are certain things we are all tired of hearing. Like:

“Are you seeing anyone?”

“It will happen when you least expect it.”

“You just need to put yourself out there more.”

“But you're so great! How could you be single?”

“Have you tried online dating?”

“You're too picky.”

“At least you have a good job!”

“You are SUCH a catch”

“There are plenty of fish in the sea!”

“I know the perfect person for you!”

"If you're going through a period of singleness, then maybe you are just meant to be single right now." <---Usually said by someone who is married. It's like a person chowing down on a big chicken drumstick telling a starving person: "I know you are hungry right now, but maybe you are just meant to be hungry. You know?"

Of course, the all-time worst comment ever is: "Just be yourself." Um, no, DON'T be yourself. Be anybody but yourself. Being yourself got you to where you are today (single) - in other words, being yourself is why you're single.

Things taken people get tired of hearing from single people: 1. I can never find the perfect guy! 2. You just don't know how i feel, 3. He's the sweetest guy but i'd never date him even if he asked me out, 3. I'm so into this guy who ignores me and treats me like crap! Why can't i be happy? 4. We sleep around and have not established a commited relationship, why is he flirting with other girls? 5. I'm going to be alone forever, 6. No one will ever love me! 7. I'm going to get old andbe the cat lady/cat guy, 8. I don't need a boyfriend, i have coffee! (netflix, cats, dogs, etc.)

I would like to add "Do you have friends or a friend?" Which translates to are you at least banging someone? Lol I hate being asked that because that is too personal of a question and it implies that you can't live without sex. I can go a long time without it when I'm single, I would rather pleasure myself then have a friends with benefits . Even though that seems to be the norm, I hate being asked about if I am still getting my freak on as a single woman because people are always judging and it nobody's business even if I was.

I get the you're probably just too picky all the time online. Guys always say that. Nope. I have only once liked a guy outside my league. I didn't even tell him because I knew right away that I wasn't good looking enough for him. The other guys who were in my league I made a move and the weren't interested because I wasn't attractive enough.

I've been hearing: " there is someone out there for you" since my first crush when I was 12. so far I haven't met anyone interested and I'm 28. I've also heard: "it will happen when you least expect it," and "you need to put yourself out there more." I do put myself out there more. If I like a guy I let him know. I have always been rejected for not being attractive.

Yeah I'm 25 and have had a handful of flings and hookups, which is really nothing to brag about, but no actual relationship. There have been some girls that wanted a relationship with me who I felt no attraction towards. Some people might say take one for the team. It's like why? Should I date someone just for the sake of being in a relationship and say I have relationship experience? Dating someone I have no attraction to wouldn't make me happier, only desperate and it'd be very unfair to the other person. Rejection isn't a big deal but I hate being led on and I wouldn't do it to another person because it wastes both of our time and you don't know how they'll handle it.

I'm asexual, and people tell me that it's because I've never been in a relationship, and they tell me that I need to get experience... I've never had someone ask me why I'm still single but at my old job, this one douchebag would constantly ask me if I'm getting laid or had sex with one recently and ask about my number and when I said 5 just to shut him up, he's like you need to get your numbers up. He's like the average male fucks at least 10 girls a year and how no girl wants to date a guy who hasn't fucked at least 10 girls yet. I then replied grow the fuck up and he got offended he's like I'm just joking or I'm just curious. I've never met someone so full of themselves. It's almost like this guy was more concerned about my sex life than I was.

That being said, regarding the "plenty of fish in the sea bit" I get told that a lot and my issue is I've been able to attract a handful of women initially but they've never led to anything long term and that kinda worries me. It's not what others might think that bothers me but it's like I don't know of I have some flaw that's scaring women away and don't realize it.

It's like they'll show a lot of interest initially, well have 1-4 dates and they'll say I had a great time, suggest another date and then I never hear from them again. It makes me feel like I always fuck up one way or another.

Well, the last guy I dated wasn't working because he studies full time, and has such a long commute. It truly didn't bother me at all, I was more concerned that I needed to find work urgently, particularly as he was younger and neither of us had steady incomes.

I never really get comments like that when I'm single. The most I got was "don't worry about it; you don't need to have a boyfriend in order to be happy and enjoy life." I think part of the reason there's a lot of desperate and needy guys is because of society pressures. Like how others say you're not a real man until you get laid, a gf which is very counterproductive because to the guys with less luck with women, they tend to focus on that over other things that they try too hard that they fail or they believe something is wrong with them if they're not getting laid or in a relationship.

Bottom line is, being single or in a relationship does not define a person. It's like how people complain about Valentine's day and how it sucks when they're single. It's like even if I was taken on Valentine's day, that wouldn't change anything as the holiday is just a Hallmark holiday so companies can make more money.

That is very true. Being in a relationship or not is more of a status thing than a definition, though you could define a person by the type of their relationship or behavior outside of one. And about Valentine's Day, I agree that the way you described it is how it's marketed and often celebrated, but how it is recognized is all up to the individual. There was one person on here who said that despite being single on Valentine's Day, they weren't sad because they took more notice of the love that surrounded them and celebrated it. I think that you can turn holidays like that into anything you want, regardless of your society, for the way you acknowledge it or not is all that really matters.
