  Rejecting a woman can be a pain too. There's been times where I've dated girls that I had no issue with other than I had no physical attraction to them, (they used misleading pictures on a dating site). Not to sound shallow but the girl has to be at least somewhat attractive for me to date her.

  Presumably, it is BY talking to him that you did the rejecting. If you were doing it some other way (body language?), don't expect everyone to pick up on that.
