My girlfriend lacks empathy. I am very empathetic. This is a problem?

empathy: the ability to understand and share the feelings of another

she will say things that are hurtful to me sometimes (about my body etc .) but I know that if I were to say something about her body, she would be deeply hurt and insecure about it. she also used to say things that are a bit insensitive, but not disrespectful. she does this with family members too.

Is this just the way you are raised?

Okay... I happen to lack empathy too... just try not to get offended, she probably doesn't know that what she says might be hurtful.

I guess you could say I lack empathy too... I end up insulting a lot of people even though I don't mean to.

Tell her to be a better, nicer person. I personally couldn't and wouldn't put up with that

Insensitivity isn't a lack of empathy.
