Do you think its an old fashioned concept, or do you think it still applies to modern times?

Chivalry was a code of behavior that applied to men who had been knighted (most men weren't knighted - that was reserved for nobles and a few commoners who had displayed particular courage), and only part of that code covered the treatment of women and children. But I know what you mean.

Women and children have traditionally been protected and given favor by men with manners, with all parties understanding that women, as a rule, ARE physically weaker and more fragile, and children as well, but are still important to society. Thus men would give women their coat, or their seat, open their door, stand when they entered a room, etc.

But, yes, these traditions have been greatly eroded, due to feminism and particularly RADICAL Feminism (RadFem). RadFem teaches women that chivalrous behavior is merely a means with which men enslave women. RadFem also teaches women that all sex is really men raping women, and that marriage is slavery.

I was raised to be polite and have manners, and as such, I say "excuse me", I hold doors for people, and otherwise exhibit chivalrous behavior. Twice in my life, I have held a door open for a woman only to have her berate me for doing so, spewing RadFem doctrine at me. I've also seen it happen to other men as well. Thankfully, most of that was in the 90s, and more and more women have started to realize that RadFem is insane, but RadFem teachers run all of the Women's Studies in colleges, and so girls who are in or have just recently left the insular college environment are often rabidly RadFem even today.

Men have been told that Chivalry is "bad" for the last 50 years or so, and many have been publicly insulted as I was, so you can understand why many men have abandoned it. When women scream "equality" at you for long enough, you're happy to give it to them: both the good AND the bad.

I think Chivalry is still alive. Guys still open doors for me. I also help my dad with his firewood-selling business. We get people buy truckloads of wood. I have to carry and lift up all the heavy boxes because of my dad's leg. all the male customers demand for me to not pick up any of those boxes because I am a "young lady". Which is sweet but kind of pisses me off sometimes. Especially those young good-looking males my age, they definitely don't want to watch me pick up any of those boxes. So yeah, it is still around. I think there are more acts of chivalry is southern states like Tennessee, Virginia, or Mississippi etc,

Dead to some but not to all. I don't date guy that don't open the door for me.

One windy day, on the way in to a lunch date, a man opened the door for me, and my now ex-boyfriend cut in front of my and went inside of the restaurant. I said to him, "why did you cut in front to me? it was really cold outside," guess what he said "well, I didn't make it cold." What an ass, so I dumped him

It's chivalry, and it's not quite dead. Thankfully! Anyway, I've seen chivalry in all of my guy friends at church (holding the door open, paying attention to me, giving up their seats without me asking, et cetera), and even quite a bit in my brothers! A mother will raise her sons to be chivalrous if she recognizes what good it would do for her sons' character.

Chivalry* and I don't think it's dead, but you don't see it as much as you used to. There are still some guys out there that try to keep it alive. Pretty hard to do these days.

No Chivalry is not dead and of course the code still applies, I use it everyday so I don't see how it wouldn't.

Most people don't believe in old fashioned relationships. People are more modern now
