My boyfriend has too much stuff and it's driving me nuts. What do I do?

I moved across the country with all my worldly possessions in 3 suitcases.

I own no furniture, and sleep on the floor in a sleeping bag. I own 1 pot, 1 pan, 3 cups and 3 plates. I've since moved in with my boyfriend who has 5 pots, a full dish set, cupboards full of canned food, spices, noodles etc, a full fridge, and a queen size bed that is fiendishly heavy, with a headboard and foot board.

He is neat and tidy but all this unnecessary stuff drives me nuts. It seems wasteful and causes extra work. I mention it and he says he needs all this stuff. How the heck can two people need 8 dinner plates, or 10 cans of vegetable soup?

I make nearly $70000 so I could afford more stuff but I prefer simplicity and putting away money to invest and travel instead of blowing it on stuff. What should I do?
