I find that most issues of race really come down to culture, education and economics. If your boyfriend was raised in a healthy environment, he will be a good man. If he grew up in a cesspool of poverty, substance abuse, violence, etc. he will likely be damaged and unpredictable. But then, that would be true if her were Caucasian.
