We have known each other for almost a year now and talk almost everyday. He used to go to my school, but he moved back to Norway a couple months ago. Before he left, we would hang out at the library together and he introduced me to his friends. When he moved back to Norway, he also introduced me to his family there. It's really hard to tell how he feels, because he flirts with me all the time and is usually the first one to call, but the few times we talked about relationships, he said that they weren't worth it in high school. However, we talk for hours on the phone about any and everything and we confide in each other, so to me, it basically feels like a relationship already. He's the first guy I've liked in years, and I really really like him, but I can't figure out how he feels in return, and if he only wants to be friends.

So I just asked him if he liked me and he said that he appreciated me telling him and that I was an awesome person, but he didn't say that he liked or didn't like me back? I think it was a gentle let down but?
If he is talking to you for hours on the phone he probably does like you back, but obviously since you are not together in person you can't pick up on the body language to see if he really, really likes you.
You are just going to have to be brave and tell him how you feel, I'm sure he will be pleased and flattered by your admiration for him even if he is not yet ready for a romantic relationship.

how about asking like the other guy said, i mean you could drop hints if you want like oh just imagine if we were in a relationship haha but thats the long con, if you want the quick and dirty way just ask.

I think it's better to just ask him directly
