It's my birthday and my boyfriend didn't get me anything. Should I be mad?

Today is my birthday and well my boyfriend didn't get me anything. I mean it is still early morning, but I saw him until late last night because I told him I couldn't see him tonight and, well, nothing. We went out for dinner last night (burger and fries) and well he paid but he usually pays so that is nothing out of the ordinary. We were texting until well into the evening last night and while I got flooded with birthday texts at 12am, his seemed to be the only one missing. It wasn't until we said goodnight that he finally sent me an elaborate birthday text.

Am I justified for being upset about this? I don't know but if the roles were reversed I would have done things way differently. I just feel extremely under appreciated. Am I wrong? Also, is this something that I should talk about with him? I don't want to come off as materialistic but at the same time, the smallest thing would have sufficed, like even flowers or candy.

P. S. I don't know if this information can be of use but we have only been together for 3 months.

i mean its not about an expensive gift, a stuffed teddybear, a single red rose, so many litlle things would suffice.

maybe he "forgot" about it, that he'd got confused about what date it was.

Just last night after dinner, we walked around the mall and he found an $80 coat that he really liked and he was contemplating buying it. He made a comment that said "maybe I should be getting you something since you're the birthday girl". It makes me think he didn't even think about getting me anything. I also doubt money is an issue and I doubt he forgot the date.

He's an extremely thoughtful guy, which is why this situation baffles me.

And YES, any little thing would have sufficed!

Oh no I wasn't being sarcastic with the all caps, I was agreeing with your statement about the little things and I got excited so I typed in all caps. I agree wholeheartedly with what you said.

Its not about the value so why are talking about being a gold digger? Its about the thought that counts. Its not about milking your boyfriend of his money. Refusing gifts is also rude, someone took time out of their day to do something special for you.

Okay well all relationships are different yours is a unique situation I've never seen anything like that where a couple doesn't like to give and receieve nice things to each other. You shouldn't say girls are gold diggers if they like gifts on their birthdays though 😂

Yeah perhaps. But you would think (and I do this), that if you know a present will be late because of shipping, you would tell the person "Hey, your gift is on the way!" Or something of the like.
