If they can fight, yes. Personally I don’t need my girlfriend too as that’s why I learned karate but if she wants to fight and try to protect me I’m not gonna stop her unless the other persons got a weapon.
If he can handle himself.. NO but if he is gonna be ambushed or ganged up on then I would feel the need to do something or call for back up.
Speaking for myself, I would step in in no time! I'm not practicing self defense for nothing! But if the girl is so weak that a blow of wind can defeat her, then it would be more logical for her to stand there and call the cops.
The strongest should defend the other, why should the gender matter?
No women should be involved in a physical fight maybe a verbal fight and call cops not physical. I will personally don't care if i get my ass kicked but if he touch my girlfriend i will seek for revenge no matter what. No MATTER WHATTT.

Exactly. There are some delusional women out there that really think they can just fight someone built much stronger and help out their boyfriend.
Short-term, I might be able to get one good shot from behind and then run (take my boyfriend with me also) afterwards once he's down but it better be good enough to knock him down in the first place.
If it's real man-to-man, fair fight, I'm finished after the 2nd or 3rd punch. 1st one I can't take but that's about it.

@Vesuvius87 In the good ol days all you would have to do is get in front of your boyfriend and the other guy would stop. Because if he's any kind of a man at all he wouldn't lay his hands on a woman. I wouldn't trust that at all nowadays. Best to just stay out of the way.

I had a fist fight with a guy and when him and I got separate in the crowed my girlfriend got involved and ripped his shirt off and swung at him
