Neither my girlfriend and I really would do that as a general rule. Though we have in the past from time to time for whatever reason. Mostly when one of us was about to get in the shower and the other was already using the facilities.

However, one day, you find yourself with little people - starting as toddlers. Closed doors are not something to stay closed but are rather invitations to "c'mon in" and see what mommy or daddy are up to.

To wit, the bathroom has become pretty much - whether in use or not - a meeting place for pre-schoolers. (Locking the door merely provokes loud banging on the door.) So you sit there - or stand there - pants down and answer questions like, "What are you doing daddy?" (which you would think would be obvious, but no.) Alternatively, "Are you poo-pooing daddy?"

In fairness, we tend to be somewhat casual about nudity. All three kids have seen mommy and daddy naked, and in a rush I have been known to shower with my boys - though never my daughter. (It ends up not necessarily, in the end, saving time to have two naked giggling boys shooting squirt guns at each other.)

So I guess we can't be too surprised that the kids do not see the bathroom as a "safe space." Further, as they get older they are getting more respectful and also somewhat more shy themselves.

So put this household down as an "unintentional yes." Such is life in a house where the highest virtue of a second grader is not self-consciousness, let alone bashfulness.

If my girlfriend is sitting to pee, it doesn't bother me too much, though I would prefer that she close the door. If she is sitting to do more serious business, I definitely do not want to see or hear any of that.

Depends on how much time we've been together. I've been 4 years with my boyfriend, and we've lived together sharing one bathroom. I've peed while he was using the shower or I have brushed my teeth while he was peeing. So I don't matter at all if he leaves the door opened at all.

I lived with two girls a while ago and I didn't give it much thought. It was my house too. I'm a very good room mate but there's a chance I'll pee with the door open.

Depends on what you and your partner find comfortable in your relationship. If ya been together for years yeah probably door is open but if it is only like the 3rd date than I'd say no it is not okay. 🤷‍♂️
