A guy at work referred to one of the workers as a good boy which I thought was odd cause I thought the guy was only 10 - 14 years older than the "good boy" guy - the guy he was talking to looked around 26 - so I would hardly refer to him as a kid.

"A good guy" in any context is positive and I take well. Good boy is condescending, even if intended positively. Good girl can be good and can be condescending. It's all about the connotations.

Saying "he's a good boy" doesn't land the same way as saying "she's a good girl". More or less good girl=good woman has the same connotation in most cases, with choice usage of good girl being somewhat talking down to.

I can't think of any context where saying good boy isn't condescending unless both parties are teenagers. Like a 14 year old be talked about as a good boy isn't out of place. But a 16/17 year old it starts to have a different tint to it.

To be honest, I do, when they are NOT "good".
The equivalent to good girl is more or less "braves Mädchen", which satisfies me in a very deep and meaningful way.
But again, if it's from the wrong guy it's weird and wrong. Should be from someone you like and appreciate :)
