HELP PLEASE!! My girlfriend threatened me with knife. What shall I do?

We were having a small argument about something. We both were calm, but somehow she became angry and started hitting me. She later on got a knife from the kitchen and started threatening me that she will hurt me. I was scared that she may actually harm me, so I accepted whatever she wanted me to accept and left her apartment.

She has called me around 30 times already since morning, but I don't wish to talk to her now. She also texted me bunch of times wanting me to visit her tonight. She also mentioned in one of her texts that she wants me to meet one of her friends at her place. I'm scared and don't know what to do. What should I do?

Thank you all for giving me your suggestions. My apologies that I won't be able to reply to each one of you, but you all deserve an MHO. I wanted to update you all bout my situation. I moved to my parents' house and will probably live here for a few weeks. I couldn't discuss all the things with my parents cuz I was exhausted. I'll do it tomorrow afternoon. I'm considering restraining order and have already blocked her. I've to get my stuff back from her though as I lived at her place.

I'm not sure if you're aware of the "crazy girlfriend" or "psycho ex-girlfriend" trope, but let me just say that sane people don't do that at all. Like there is no way I'm ever doing that to anyone, let alone the people I love and care about. What shall you do? Its your call but you should be careful since my friend dated someone similar and she was really hard to get rid off. I'm more in favor with what @gabzz001 said: "File a restraining order". I'm not trying to scare you, but from what you said the situation sounds bad.

Personally I feel the first question to ask yourself is do you really honestly and truly love her? if not then break up with her.. be done !! tell its over. Normally I wouldn't advise breaking up with someone other than face to face but if she scares you that badly do it either over the phone or in a text. But now on the other hand if you do love her then I would tell her that you want to be with her and make it work and if she feels the same way about you then she needs to agree to seek some kind of help. Ie: anger management, counseling, something along those lines. But until something is agreed upon and progress is made i personally would not be alone with her again.

Honestly I would just end the relationship. If my current partner suddenly became violent to the point threatening me with a knife I would break up with them. And I would even consider a restraining order if necessary.
However if you don't want to breakup then try talking to them and recommend them seeking help managing their emotions but just know that they might still react the same way again.

How can you threaten someone you love with a knife? No matter how angry, no one in their right mind does that or even thinks about doing it. No matter if she really intended to hurt you or just threatened, and no matter if she did things like this before, she is obviously not the person you want to spend your life with. Please don't go visit her. Thing about it that way. This is absolutely not something you'd want to dismiss and forgive. It's not a small thing.

Seems pretty obvious. Don't talk to her anymore. Why would you spend any time with someone you think might harm you? If you really don't feel safe, file a restraining order.
