Was I an unsupportive girlfriend?

Before my boyfriend left to bootcamp, I asked him if he wanted to break up, I was excited for him, but worried about how our relationship would hold up.

We have been LDR for 8 months (just friends before) and although we have a lot of passion and love for each other, we are also very different, and need a lot of time to still fully get to know each other.

We are still together, but I’m a bit worried...

Was I being an unsupportive girlfriend by talking about possibly breaking up?

If he doesn’t feel any way about it then don’t overthink the action, and that’s good rule of thumb just in general. But specifically with what you did I don’t think you were being unsupportive. You were mature enough to ask the hard question, and to look at the relationship from a broader perspective than simply being in love. This next adventure in his life will be tough for both of you, and wondering if he is ready for that doesn’t make you a monster for asking.

He told me that he understood why I asked and that it made sense.. but he also said that it made him feel scared because he thought we’d be in a relationship where we could always keep trying. This made me cry and feel so guilty... I was trying to think of it logically

Don’t feel guilty about this. You didn’t break up with him or anything, you were just thinking forward and trying to be practical.
