Why did he say “If you think I’m a player then maybe we can’t be together”?

He overheard me talking to my friends about him because I had my doubts about if he wanted a relationship or not. The way he said it he sounded like he was hurt but trying to play it off so I wouldn’t know. But he also said he didn’t care about what I thought of him and when I asked he just said nevermind.

Either he was insulted you think poorly of him or he wants to guilt you into ignoring that part of him so it'll be easier for him to continue.
