You need to give him space. He's a preteen and in his mind he'd probably be saying " she's not my mom". Thats another thing to consider... You are only 11 years older and this can conflict in the childs mind. His father is clearly dating a younger woman. This may make him uneasy. So best thing to do is to be polite. Keep your cool and do not loose your temper. The child is testing you. If you want to gain his respect you must first be respectful of him and stay calm. Just be mindful. You are the new comer. You are the stranger encroaching on his turf. If things get serious between you and his dad eventually you will have to have the speach... The I know I'm not your mom. I am never going to try to act like I am either but if you give me a chance I can be a friend to you.
Bratty kid. Yeah gotta talk to the dad then cuz my siblings that have dated people with kids they can be like that and mistreat u, for one make sure the father knows and don’t let him be hard but gotta like let him know so u guys can work it out together. Second be rlly positive , funny , and seem active with him try inviting him to cool places making memories or going on walks. But it’ll come around
In this kind of situation, take a step back, and take it slow with getting to know him. Eventually he will change how he feels. Right now he does not trust you.
