Men, would you prefer a housewife?

Question

Simple question, probably going to get some controversial answers. I just want honesty. Men, would you prefer a housewife (who cleans, cooks, takes care of the family, other household duties)?

I understand some men would want the woman to do any household related duties as the man works. I understand other men would want there to be a 50/50 split between household duties and work duties. I'm wondering what's the actual percentage of the two, if more men prefer a housewife or if more men prefer a working wife. Feel free to comment your opinion below.

Well a housewife is someone who usually just stays at home cooks, cleans, etc and she usually doesn’t have a career. I don’t think that’s something I’d want. That said when I have kids, I wouldn’t want to be that type of parent that is so dedicated to their job that I wouldn’t really know my kids or have any type of relationship with them because I spend all my time working. There needs to be balance, as Thanos says, “perfectly balanced as all things should be”😂

I want a career but I also want to look after my future family. The thing is, when it comes to being a housewife and lets say a woman wants a career as well or instead one of the first things she will be asked is: “but don’t you want to look after your family?” But, the thing is a man who does nothing except work , is often seen as a “hard worker” it’s like people tend to forget that families can also consist of fathers, and the father also should want to look after his family too, by having a relationship with his children, and doing household chores too.

Why should a man do household chores? Well he isn’t a child, I don’t see why it should be down to one person to do everything. Plus if you have sons and daughters and it’s only the woman doing the chores, you’re sending out a bad message to your kids. Because chores are not a woman’s job, everyone old enough should have a role in helping out in the household.

Moreover, why should the father sacrifice a relationship with his children because he’s out working all the time? It’s basically saying that the man is solely responsible for the financial stability of the children, and the woman is responsible for the schooling, the emotional well-being etc, when shouldn’t a father play a role in those things too?

Plus, if she solely relies on her husband for income- then what happens if her husband gets injured or becomes ill or becomes abusive or worse? By solely relying on him for income, she puts herself in a very vulnerable position.

That said I’ve known of women who are housewives who work from home, or use their free time to study so they have the option of a career later on in life. It’s worth noting that sometimes circumstances can result in women being housewives too, in that they didn’t have an opportunity for education in their youth, or they were raised in a culture where they were told the only job a woman can do is be a housewife, their mental and emotional well-being may have had an impact on them becoming a housewife too. Or a woman simply prefers to label herself a housewife, but even with that label, there is far more to her than a woman who cooks and cleans and takes care of the family. I’ve known women who are housewives that run businesses from home, who make a job out of fostering children and I think both of those are pretty great things. It’s not necessarily as black and white as we initially think it is.

And even if a woman does just want to cook and clean for her family because it is her choice and she loves doing so, if she’s happy in doing so then more power to her.

But personally it’s not something for me to solely cook and clean for the family just like solely working isn’t. I want both, I want to be able to look after my family and work- and to anyone who will tell me: “you can’t have both” yes I can, I know several women who have both and they are thriving, so I don’t see why I can’t be like those women.

I couldn’t have friends over or go visit my friends, guys focus too much on their job and treat u like a nanny and don’t care about you! Left his ass and I work full time and parent full time! I wanted a traditional woman. A woman who wanted relationships and marriage. A woman whose family was her priority. I didn't want someone who wanted to party and drink and stay single until she was 33... having all kinds of one night stands and casual sex... who lived with guys and who may get around to getting married at 33ish. Someone whose career is her priority and all life decisions are based on that.

My wife was 25 when we married. She has a master's degree and a full time career but it is a local job... she works 40 hours a week...4 days...1 night... she alternates between Friday and Saturday. She is off Friday and works until 5 on Saturday... the following week she weeks Friday until 5 and is off Saturday.

She lived at home with her parents and her younger sister (who is now married herself) until she married me. She works but her career doesn't dictate our lives... she doesn't travel... she doesn't work 60-70 hours a week, she isn't getting called in at a moments notice and cancelling on us. Our marriage and our daughter are her priority and life and where she gets her true joy.

She works but she is a traditional woman.

I'm traditional. I'd prefer a housewife to a woman who only respects and gives all of her energy to the boss at work. I'd prefer a housewife to a woman who thinks she's too good/special to do housework.

I have no clue why any sane man would do 50% of household chores given that he's also responsible for doing all the heavy manual labor, household repair/maintenance, security related stuff, car repair and so on. I do the stuff that's easier for me to do. She should do the stuff that's easier for her to do. It's called being a team. There needs to be a balance between us. Not one person doing everything for the other because they're too lazy to do their part. Sure, if my wife is sick or feeling too tired I'll pick up some slack for her but it can't be a normal thing because I have other responsibilities as a member of the team.

I'm also good with a woman who works AND does her share at home and doesn't dare expect me to do it for her. If she wants to have a career it doesn't mean she doesn't have responsibilities at home. Otherwise why do I have any responsibilities at home?

I used to at first wanted to be a sterotypical traditional male you know be the sole breadwinner with a wife who stayed at home with the children. But lately I don't like the thought of people just blindly doing activities I usually prefer to do, I want to have a wife and possible children who prefer their hobbies.

Plus I am extremely goal oriented, if I am forced to only go too work so some asshole can just lounge around on the couch and possibly eat cake while I am forced to slave away I am sorry but fuck no I don't accept something like that. I prefer to actually marry a woman who is also as independent and financially secure as myself, I want to build my own business and hopefully create my own movies and shows, I want to wear leather, suits, and lingerie (Please don't judge, we all have our own life.) I also am planning on traveling all around the world and hopefully do my dream hobbies as you can tell I have a ton of ambition and life goals and I am planning to do all of that with my own money, I might help my children to considering they legally can't work until they become older but my future wife nah. I want my future wife to actually have her own goals and to also be financially independent and not being dependent on me, the same is with myself I don't want to be dependent on her as well.

As for the house work I realistically believe we should equally split the house work, and in this current economy just imagine only having one person making income it be kinda difficult but if both people are making income realistically my future wife and I can combine our checks, knocked out the bills and leave more comfortable. This way neither of us aren't just mooching off each other also I feel like most housewife/househusband aren't thinking of the possibility of pertential divorce, if you ended up breaking up with your husband/wife how will you be able to take care of yourself, the person who were making money has majority of the power in the relationship This way if the relationship doesn't work out neither parent won't be at a disadvantage because both mother and father had their own money.

So coming from this long posts I realistically came to the conclusion I don't want to marry a housewife the same way I don't want to become a househusband myself, I think both my wife and I should find pay work while splitting the chores at home. And if we decide that neither of us aren't interested in having children that can also work, we can just use our money to do or buy stuff we are interested in. I can go take my trips when I ain't doing my business, the same way she can do her prefer activities when she isn't doing her job.

This modern nuclear and single mother model for homes is absolute fubar. It is a family-killer.

I know we cannot go back to the 50's, but women were more often happier during that time, but now are not as happy, drink wine like no one's business, on all kinds of meds and antidepressants and are stressed. Many are just settling for fur babies and are now giving up on men all together. It's a pretty sad state of affairs.

Also as women left the home, is when our neighborhoods got dangerous and no one knows anyone. Women use to be that force and the glue to hold communities together. That's all gone along with kids playing on the streets until the street lights come on.

I am not so backwards to say men can also fill this void, but many men generally don't like home life of rasing kids and caring for a home. Now everyone wants to finance themselves into all kinds of debt, people are more stressed than ever for materialistic things. Life use to be so much easier, safer, and cheaper in decades past. Now everything is expensive and no one really knows their neighbors.

I know most young people will disagree with me, but a housewife is gold. If you can find one, make her your everything, and be a man for the sake of our sake and society. For our country and have a real mom caring for her kids than teenagers at a daycare and the public schools who are now expected to teach more than the 3 R's.

Hopefully my answer makes sense. Before having kids, I would prefer her to work full-time and us split ALL responsibilities "50/50". I put 50/50 in quotes because each person has things they are better or worse at than their partners and/or income differences. To me, 50/50 is not true 50/50, but rather each person contributing whatever is fair and equitable given their abilities. For example, if one of us makes $100,000 a year and the other $50,000 a year, I do not expect bills to be split perfectly 50/50. I would expect each of us to have a balanced budget that is not too restrictive yet does require some discipline. Before kids, I would want her to help me pad up our savings to prepare for future expenses. Once we have kids, I would want her to become a housewife (by her choice, not forced) because watching kids is a full-time job and childcare is expensive. I am also aware that I cannot prepare fully on my own to support a family with just my income so her preparation could make all the difference. At the same time, I would still help her whenever and however I could. Basically, I believe in a relationship that is fair in any given circumstance, which requires some flexibility in thinking.

If you look at the household work as internal chores (cooking, cleaning, machines maintenance) and external chores (working fir money, even investing/being a landlord or share owner - I would want her (or them) to be as involved with it as I am.
In my case it could mean running my (currently one man, and perhaps best kept that way) consultancy with me - so the effort it takes to bring us the money we need is minimised (being brainy should help with that, to minimise the time spent and maximise the benefits - so we can spend more time cuddling, having sex, going to nice places/the nature, enjoying, and as little as possible solving other people's problems).
Would that be a housewife, or a business partner/home based business associate - I would like all of the above.
I think it applies generally, before children arrive, and afterwards (the q there is 'if she can help me get better organised workwise, maybe cleaning or cooking should be done by someone else - I would not mind a woman that raises our babies and even schools/teaches them at home as her main engagement with professionalism - as long as she is loyal, you could say I am highly flexible on the chores distribution (child rearing I find a joy, not a chore - but I haven't had any children yet to be able to confirm it is the case))

I have a hard time, in a relationship with a woman, when she isn't KNOWING, and acting like she knows she is at least my equal! I don't want some submissive, someone to, oh, it's repugnant, to me!!
How are so many woman not knowing, and being equals? Is it fear, of just not knowing how to relate, or something else?

Idc what she does as long as my homes clean, kids are raised, and my foods warm. My shorter weeks are $60/week longer once can be in the 80s and 90s… if I have to do dishes on one of them weeks it’s unacceptable. I don’t mind helping with trash or other things that may be difficult or she don’t like but I don’t clean. I use paper plates and hire a maid to clean my house…

Women have yo bring value to make marriage worth considering and the only value they bring to me is sex, kids, and support around the house or with the house problems. Heck no. I want my girlfriend/wife to be at least a bit ambitious! Personally, if I date a girl who tells me she wants to be a housewife, it's over. I find this so unappealing and a huge turn-off. A girl with a strong head on her shoulders and who knows what she wants and how to get it, *that* is sexy in my eyes.

And I don't feel threatened in my masculinity if she has a nice (or nicer) job or earns more than me. Some guys want to feel like they are the center of the universe in order to feel good about themselves. I don't. (or are just stuck in the 50s) If my girlfriend does some very cool stuff for a living I'll just be excited to have such a partner and be proud of her achievements. Besides, if the girl has no ambition, I'm pretty sure I'd have issues getting into any half-decent conversation, or have some good time with her.

We just split 50/50 the job, regardless of whether we have kids or not.

If it was still feasible, then sure. But that's not how things work in modernity. One income can't typically support two people, let alone a family. And when the the divorce rate is still around 50% still, getting married is a much larger risk than a benefit.

I've met really cool housewives before, women who take the multi-million dollar house that the man paid for and make it perfect and pristine. That's why I think "homemaker" his a better title than "housewife." And they seemed more in tune with men's emotions and how to please them, maybe they just cared to do so more than the typical working woman.

But I've also seen stuff on the opposite side of the spectrum, where the husband makes all the money and does most of the domestic work while the stay at home wife bitches him out. So in reality it's a mixed bag... But I don't endorse marriage either way so...

All right, maybe I don't know all this fancy stuff with the colors in the laundry but I just wear darker clothes. No prob. I was doing awesome as a bachelor. I even changed a diaper a few times on my own.

Nope. I don’t see why I should. Practically speaking, it is in no way a necessity. Like you don’t need a single person dedicated the entire day to clean a house and there’s no need to completely give up working to raise some kids (since schools and daycares exist). I guess morally, ethically speaking, I see no reason why I would prefer that either. A traditional lifestyle (with respect to household and such) is not something I value nor care about.

More generally speaking, I think being a housewife can also be a massive waste of potential.

The most attractive women are the ones who have the full capacity to be self sufficient BUT don’t mind (and like) having a traditional setup. I don’t mind supporting a woman not because she demands it but she respects it. However I have met women looking for “saviors” before. That is a huge turnoff and an automatic dealbreaker. My last girlfriend was like that and it’s one of the main reasons I broke up w/ here. She wasn’t financially independent (no excuse for western women to be like that)

Which is probably the kind of man most women would prefer to be with as opposed to men who earn less and are more materialistic and not very family oriented. Just something to consider.

Yeah probably. She doesn't even need to necessarily do all of those things herself--particularly clean. But I would want her to at least take ownership of making the home livable and take primary ownership of raising/educating the kids. That doesn't mean she's doing these things herself. I'm fine putting money behind both to get help in, but would like her to co-ordinate and take ownership of those things.

Beyond that I don't really care if she works outside the home or not. If she wants to great, if not that's fine too. Whatever makes her happy. Though I have to say, I've seen many a girl doing work outside the home that does NOT make her happy. And if it's also not making "real" money, why bother with that?

I don't like "traditional" at all, I don't want either to confine ourselves to archaic traditional rules or roles. So I would not prefer housewife at all.

I prefer independent ambitious women, so clearly you can't have both. Housewife would feel like she's mommying me. I'm a grown man why would it be a problem for me to be able to look after and take care of myself.

I want a partner not a maid. We both have each others back, we both work, we both take care of housework.

With my current lifestyle it's a "it would be nice" but I don't care much right now. I'd see more value in a second source of income, but that might change next year.

Without kids it doesn't make much a difference as long as her work doesn't get in the way of our alone time. I'm fine with cooking dinner or buying it regularly.

When I have kids I'd much rather have a housewife tho.

We had kids.
She stayed home when they were young.

When the kids were in school she got another degree and started working.
Balance... it worked for us.
I know not everyone can do the same thing but that's how it worked out for us.

I look at my parents as the perfect example. My father always worked and provided for the family. My mother worked until they had kids and then stayed home full time to take care of the kids and home. She was always there showing she cared about my sister and me and we always knew we were the most important thing in her life. When we were old enough that we were in school full time during the day she worked part time, and when we were in high school she went back to work full time and began building a career. Today she is a vice president of a company.

To me, that is the perfect model for a healthy family. Each parent should do what is best for the family, not just what is best for themselves. Children need and deserve a real mother. I have no respect for women who put their personal ambitions above the needs of their children and family.
