If he was going without you, and has a friend it makes sense. I would not be jealous, as dancing alone would be less fun.
He seems to have told you this, or you found out someway while not being there.
If he loves you more, you have nothing to worry about or be jealous about. If he would rather be with her than you, it is best to let things happen. You would really not want to be someone that he loved only second best.
Letting someone go that you love, can be hard but it really is the best for them and for you.

I wouldn't be. It stands to reason if he was going to a prom he would probably end up dancing. He danced with a friend and didn't go around trying to ask random girls. Sounds fairly innocent to me.
If they're just friends, there's nothing to be jealous of. He probably wanted company and a dance partner. That's it.

The moment you strap on and start to tighten the leash you start pushing people away. Show people you trust them and they will be more likely to love you.
