Why are many beautiful girls single while their average looking counterparts are not?

Usually because relationships (vs. just casual sex) are based on a lot more than just looks. A girl could be super annoying, very flaky, loud and obnoxious, or a complete evil bitch, but if she's hot, lots of guys will fuck her for the night, because he never plans on having to deal with her again. With a relationship, her personality matters, and long-term compatibility matters, and morals and values and boundaries matter, and most guys will happily trade some points in the looks department to get a girl with far better attitude, personality, and long-term compatibility if he's looking for a relationship.

Many really attractive people - men and women alike - are selfish, self-centered, demanding assholes, because they are used to everyone letting them get away with it because of their looks. They act all entitled and they have little interest in doing anything for the other person (as always, this is a generalization, and exceptions exist). So, again, many people will do a casual hookup with someone like that if they can, but only really shallow people will get into a relationship with someone like that, and those relationships almost always go very bad.

The mainstream media and social media especially have trained most people to be focused almost entirely on looks - what is going to get the most interest on my Instagram story: a quality relationship partner or a hot guy/girl to take pics of at sunset? We all know the answer to that, but it has largely destroyed people's understanding of what relationships are supposed to be, and it's made everyone focus on trying to be with (ONLY!) the best-looking people, even if they are toxic nightmares to be with, because it's all about image, and not about the substance of the relationship.

I won't tell you that guys don't care about looks, because of course we do. And I won't tell you that there aren't some guys who ONLY want to date the girls with 9+ looks, because such guys exist. But the vast majority of guys, even though we like looking at the hot girls, will still happily be in a relationship with an average-looking girl if she has a great attitude and personality and we are highly compatible - in fact, most of us would choose that over a hot girl who has a bad attitude or who we have low compatibility with. We tend to use the logic part of our brain, rather than just the emotional part, when we consider getting into a relationship - which is not always the case for a one-night stand.

The average-looking girl is probably happy to cook some meals, or won't complain if we're home late from work, and she probably won't expect first-class vacations and all of those other ridiculous expectations that many very good-looking girls have. In fact, the average-looking girl is much likelier to be happy a lot more often, and pleasant to be around, and will appreciate the things her guy does for her, and will happily do things for him in return. That's FAR better for most men over the long term than just a hot girl that's always a problem to deal with.

I really like this answer, too. One thing I remember my mom told me when we had our big talk about sex and all that was that sometimes really pretty girls don't get dates because guys think like, "Oh, she'd never say yes to me." It may be true guys think that, but do pretty girls actually think that way? I just think there's way too much emphasis on looks. Yeah, looks get things going, but it's like people are so twisted up about looks. I don't get it.

Most of them "beautiful" people you talk about don't want to be in relationships. That is they don't want to do what is necessary to have a meaningful relationship. Many of them are very ugly inside and it shows when they interact with people.
There are so many people who think just because they exist. They DESERVE a relationship. Life doesn't work that way.

Does it really matter? When they find someone, it'll be an empty relationship and the man will soon see.
