Why do narcissists make you think you're at their mercy?

They act like they're some type of savior (that they did so much for you.. lol) and even tell you they can dump you anytime you don't listen to them nor do the things they want; they act like they're your boss and you're the poor employee at their mercy. Meanwhile they're out there cheating and disrespecting yourself as a person, destroying your self-esteem.

Why do they do that? It's the other way around... they are the losers. They are the ones who can't ever get into a healthy relationship. Even the most nice and patient man/woman isn't going to tolerate them forever; they will reach their breaking point and dump them.

Narcissists are usually "made" - they grew up being told that they were "special" and better than everyone else, and their actions were always defended and justified and they were rarely if ever told "no." They're selfish and entitled because they were taught to be so.

The problem is that such people tend to be very confident, and they're often successful in their careers (they're not afraid to be pushy, steal credit, and other things to get ahead of people who have morals and won't stoop to these tactics), so on the surface, they are often attractive to the opposite sex. People get with them based on surface-level factors without knowing anything about their morals and values - or even knowing them but ignoring them because they've got surface-level attraction (i. e., they score high on the Instagram scale). Once they're hooked, then the narcissist really starts in on the manipulation, and too many people take far too long to realize how deeply they've fallen into the trap.

Wow they're so twisted that they don't realize how messed up they are. I was reading a story not so long ago about a narcissistic boyfriend who really believed he ''saved her life''. The girl had a stomach tumor and was her parents that found the doctors. The cost of the operation was paid by her parents and her. The boyfriend had the nerve to say that if it wasn't for him and his suggestion to eat everything and learn to cook more stuff, she would've died, that she owes him her life. Wow... how delusional.

The boyfriend did nothing to save her life. He didn't give out any money for her surgery nor searched for doctors. The girl's parents were busy during all that work.

Yes - narcissists believe the entire world revolves around them and their desires, and that they are justified in doing anything they want to anyone if it furthers their own desires. They're only concerned about how things make THEM look or feel, and don't care about the pain other people experience.

The real question here is why are you attracted to them despite the fact that they are jerks? You wouldn't be here asking this question if you weren't.
