Boyfriend of 1 year doesn’t want me going to the same Jiu Jitsu classes as him?

Maybe he gets annoyed when we spend too much time together? We work and live together but I really wanna go back to doing martial arts like I used to, so maybe I should end things with him?

Breaking up with him just because he WANTS something seems rather excessive; why not try *talking* to him to find out what the problem is, and work from there? He may just want something that's his and his alone, and you could avoid the difficulty by taking a class at a different time, on a different martial art, or something.

Hmm, I can think of a few reasons. He might not like the possibility of having to fight against you. He might think he'd get distracted, going into a different mindspace when he sees you. He might not want you to see him hurt and get hurt. He might just see it as his time with "the boys".

I used to practice karate and my sister also took it up, always a bit odd to fight with your sister. Especially at the beginning she'd whine that I would hurt her by grabbing her too hard, in front of our parents so I would have to explain them too. Things get complicated.

Perhaps pick another dojo? You could always ask why he wants the space. Most folks like an outlet without distractions, this might be his. If the relationship is healthy, it’s worth working on keeping it healthy and happy

Maybe he wants something that is his own rather than another things that you're involved in.

1. He doesn't want you to see him doing that. He fears you may think he sucks at it or be better than him.
2. He doesn't want to see you doing that. He fears you will be better than him and he would find that threatening and become a roadblock in your relationship.

In essence, what he is doing is protecting your relationship from his self-aware insecurities.

Either that, or there's a hot girl in the class he likes checking out/getting to know and doesn't want you knowing.

I'd say agree to go to different classes but you can still tease him that you think he's scared you will defeat him and watch him have a flustered temper tantrum. And then just like wink and say or is it that I'm too distracting :P And watch him like just bear hug ya for being too goofy. XD.

He doesn't want you to see him lose on a regular basis. Most couples that fight together the woman loses respect if he constantly is losing. This is something guys in mma boxing jiu jitsu know about. And so maybe he is more focused on coming out on top in practice instead of learning new techniques because you're there with him.

I take a Taekwondo class best class to take as a street fight self defense where when something happens you don't go into Stan's you fucking take care of it right there and every blow is a takedown blow it's not a fight

Maybe he wants to focus on why he's there and not on you. Think of your dream guy and why he's your dream guy. He can dance, fight, love, or play music, likely. All of those things come with training, and even the longest relationships need to retain some mystery.

Do you have to take the same class? Could you just take a different class? It sounds like he needs some time to be alone with his thoughts, without worrying about what you might be thinking about him.

I think that he doesn't want to fight against you nor mess with you. Perhaps he feels so much love that he can't beat/hit you.
