Asked my friends with benefits is he was free and he asked me how my day was?

So texted my friends with benefits yesterday if he was free tomorrow night and instead of saying whether he was free or not he told me that he’d just got back from work and asked how my day was. We had a short conversation about how our weekends went and he said nothing about being free or not.
It’s left me very confused , should I ask again or not?
