I was having a talk with someone and referred to my boyfriend as my best friend. When I told my boyfriend about what I referred to as it hurt his feelings.

Apparently, the two of you define words differently. He assumes the label of boyfriend has more value than best friend, whereas you feel the label of best friend goes beyond boyfriend. Have a conversations with him. Show him you want to see this through his eyes and understand what each term means to him. Hopefully, he'll then ask you to share your perspective. It's not about being right or wrong, but showing each other you care enough to understand the deeper meaning for anything that might be shared.
