This isn’t really an “agree or disagree” kinda supposition since the research has been done. Responsibly conducted research is difficult to find, but it is available. Personally, i’ve met in person dozens of couples in consensual non-monogamous relationships, including marriages, and they were all significantly more happy than most of the traditional couples i know. Three of the longest standing marriages i personally know of were all “open” marriages. There are sound reasons for this. First, one of the consistently top two reasons for relationship problems, infidelity, is largely solved through consensual non-monogamy. Second, the depth of intimacy, trust, and communication necessary to even address the option is far beyond what most couples dare to attempt. So if you’ve had the conversations and mutually agreed on the terms, you’re likely much closer than any other couple you’ve ever met. On the other hand, those conversations can inflame existing insecurities before you can even cross the threshold. I submit that more relationships end on the road to consensual non-monogamy than do once the couples are on that road.
Really depends on the individuals and how they go about it.
